How to head to toe denim

by Shalice Noel

Sheer trench AJE sz XS/S // denim top medium H&M // Jeans MOTHER reviews say get your true size, I got a 26 // Glasses VICTORIA BECKHAM // clogs BEEK tts I got sz 9 // Faux cherry blossoms AFLORAL

Rocking denim on denim? Keep it simple: stick to similar or complementary shades. Check out this Canadian tuxedo vibe I’m rocking – paired with a sheer trench and a bold pop of red up top. What’s your take on it?

Feeling that spring fever, I spruced up our living room with some stunning faux cherry blossoms. Ever heard of AFLORAL? Their blooms are unbelievably realistic. Walking into the living room now, it’s like a burst of spring every time.

You know what’s funny? I’ve been totally obsessed with trench coats lately, and Reid won’t let me forget it! But hey, can you blame me? They’re all so different – some sheer, some maxi, and this one here? It’s got this awesome pop of orange that caught my eye. Super fun, right? The orange ties and collar add this unexpected bit of whimsy, perfect for spring vibes. So, what do you reckon? Would you give it a go?

Fall is here in Georgia, and we are loving it. Just not the leaf clean up. The cooler temps, hot cider on the stove, and extra layers are why I love fall so much. I rounded up some outfits I’ve been wearing lately. The white boots also come in brown, and are on my Christmas list! Which is your favorite look?

My Top 5 Ways to Becoming More Sustainable

What does sustainable even mean? This is a question I found myself thinking about a lot recently, which is why I decided to look more into it and educate myself and my family. What I found out is sustainable actually means minimizing non-renewable energy consumption and using as many recycled products as possible. This is something I want to make sure we’re doing in our home and something I feel like we should be talking about more. So, this is how our family is being more sustainable. Hopefully these things can act as some ideas for your family too!

1. We eat local

Eating local means we are supporting small businesses and that we are using fewer fossil fuels for the food to get to us. It’s a small step, but when you think about how many times you eat out, it’s one of those little things that adds up.

2. Recyclable sandwich bags

When I started thinking about how many plastic bags a week we were going through for leftovers, lunches, snacks, etc. it kind of made me sick. Especially after learning that plastic takes hundreds of years to decompose. So, we started using reusable sandwich bags, which has cut down a lot of our waste on a weekly basis.

3. Buying used

When you love a good handbag or designer shoes as much as me, buying used can make a big difference. I’ve been buying used luxury items at places like eBay, Poshmark, and The Real Real for years!

4. Recycle

We recycle plastics and paper and I’m proud of seeing the kids follow suit on the recycling habit. It’s important to teach them to do this now so they can make the same smart choices as they get older.

5. Donate

Not only do I try to buy used when it comes to luxury items, but I want our old clothes and shoes to be reused as well. As a family, we donate via Crossroads and the Salvation Army. With 7 people, you can imagine that there are a lot of shoes and clothes that can go to well deserving new homes.
Now, it’s your turn! How are you practicing sustainability?

After all, I believe the mantra, FEWER, BETTER THINGS.

Monday Notes

Trench (wearing a small and I’m 5’9″)// Sweater // Denim Cutoffs similar // Bag // Turquoise Ring similar

When you’re feeling uninspired what do you do? When I’m feeling uninspired, I reach for one accessory that inspires me or “sparks joy”! This time it was this vintage inspired logo canvas Fendi bag. It is so simple yet classic and timeless. I reached for my (under $100) trench coat, denim shorts, and oversize sweater to complete the look. If you really wanted to kick it up a notch for date night, I would add a red lip! Bare Minerals “Srsly Red” is a new favorite.

Some Weekend Notes:

I’m loving these hair pills and these gummies, have you tried? My friend, a cancer survivor, said this collagen is helping her come back in nice and full. Yay!

I just started using ACV – apple cider vinegar – 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of water, to rinse over scalp first before use of shampoo and conditioner. It helped my hair feel lighter and less oily.

My alo faux fur jacket is back in stock in all sizes, hooray!

I’m obsessed with these lentil chips that have protein. They’re almost too yummy to be called “healthy”

Have a great weekend!

I feel like I’m way too old to be wearing tiny shorts so I’ve been looking for longer distressed shorts. Here I’m wearing some faves from FRAME and also wearing some longer version, because I’m not in college anymore. I love how denim shorts are terribly versatile. Here they are dressed up with wedges, a blouse and a trench or dressed down with a swimsuit and flip flops for the beach. I feel like they’re a great investment for any spring or summer wardrobe, so get your favorites now before they’re gone. Speaking of back in stock, my blouse is back in stock!

I’m currently obsessing with the color blush. It’s perfect for spring and makes me feel refreshed. You know what else is great for spring? A trench. The jacket I’m wearing here from Alice + Olivia is like trench meets floor length blazer. It’s such a fun look for brunch with the girls or errands on the weekend.

Temps in LA are always running high, but for the rest of the world this jacket is ideal for that awkward in between weather. You know, it’s not quite hot, but it’s definitely not cold either. Also perfect for this kind of weather? Breaking out the strappy, pastel heels. I love these because of the block, which makes it way more comfortable for daily wear. And of course, the height is great for daytime as well.

What’s your favorite way to start dressing for spring?

I’m not sure what I love more, long summer nights sipping wine on the porch or awesome bodysuits I can’t stop wearing Monday through Saturday. I’ve been wearing this ruffled one so much so, its embarrassing. Even hubby made a comment! It’s chic with jeans, a skirt or pleated pants. Here, I’m wearing it with a linen trench, distressed jeans and fall’s must-have red boots. I’m linking some of my favorites below. Hope you have a lovely Monday!

A bodysuit is a summer must-have that easily transitions to fall. And did I mention a bodysuit with an interesting back is even better? Here are some of my favorites:

Red boots are fall’s stunner, get them before they sell out during NYFW. I love them with denim or a punch of color paired with a monochromatic look:

I love a lightweight trench for layering casual or dressy looks. It’s an easy way to look “pulled together” without trying too hard.

What are some of your favorite layers?

Last week, we visited the Pasadena Library and it was simply stunning. We didn’t have long to explore, but we were able to peruse the wood paneled reading rooms, awesome kid space, and old fireplaces, so much charm. I can’t wait to take Reid back there! Also, the outdoor espresso bar is a cute little destination that’s quiet and somewhat private. Definitely worth a visit. Here are 4 more places worth a visit in LA:

LACMA 5905 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036

While ‘Spring forward’ is more of a rude awakening losing one hour, Spring colors are more than welcome. Think pinks, reds, and even floral. When in doubt, pair similar tones like pink, red, mauve, with jeans. This is the perfect outfit for lunch with a friend or date night. Trust, me, you’ll be seeing more of this blush trench. See another blush look here. Happy Monday, hope you had a lovely weekend.
