The temps are all over the place in LA, but when things were cooler last week, I had the pleasure of pulling out some fall favorites. Including this Frye poncho and Frye booties. Both have a Western vibe, which I think we’ll be seeing a lot of this fall. I like how this style looks slightly different than something like a cardigan and round-toe booties. It feels fresh for fall, you know? Frye is always great at keeping things classic with a twist, and I’m happy to add more of their staples to my closet.

I kept Western flowing with a belt and hat, but added some black jeans and fun fish net socks for a touch of whimsy. All Western wouldn’t have been me – I had to add some edge.

And if you aren’t familiar with the setting of these photos, let me introduce you to LACMA – one of my favorite Los Angeles locations for shooting or hanging out. There are 202 lampstands in this “Urban Light” art fixture, and the kids and I love it. It’s these unique landmarks that make LA feel so cool, and we come here often. If you’re ever in town, I recommend stopping by or shooting here. It makes for great photos.

Red and camel are one of my favorite color combinations. Reid’s aunt gave me a vintage camel coat and I couldn’t get enough. This combination is so classic and camel seems to highlight most colors like red.  Notably so, this sweater is under $40, so don’t feel badly about this impulse purchase. I don’t think I’m the only one who is having the hardest time not buying all the sweaters. I wish my girls would wear them because they look so cute on them with leggings. As I write, I’m wearing one and sweating, ha. Gotta love SoCal Winters. Since red sweaters are so essential and you probably own or should own at least one this holiday season, I rounded up 5 red sweaters under $168.

Happy  Weekend!

I recently did a shoot for UK Magazine GATE Magazine UK wearing Tatiana Karelina hair extensions. It was so fun to transform a look with this gorgeous braided hair! Honestly, I was sad when it came off. I loved wearing this lace bell sleeve top with the braid and flared jeans. Speaking of cute top, I’m sharing some on extra 20% off below, perfect for your mom, sisters and friends. Happy Thursday!

Have you ever not attended an event because you didn’t feel like you had the right #ootn (outfit of the night)? Well, rest assured, a good dress, trusty pumps and earrings can take you from casual to chic easier than you think. And if you were thinking you may not have enough time for a proper makeup application, rest assured Nordstrom is offering complimentary makeup application for your holiday fête. So, what are you waiting for? RSVP +1 and enjoy yourself.

I can remember being a college kid and trying to fit as much as humanly possible into my closet. 5 poorly made shirts for $20? Yes please. Even if I didn’t necessarily love something, it seemed like quantity of cheap clothes was the way to go.

Somewhere along maturity and my style evolving, I started noticing less and less in my closet, but not in a bad way. Instead of spending $200 on a ton of overly trendy items, I began saving that $200 for a quality pair of boots instead. Or a jacket I could wear all year long with multiple styles. Or, a personal favorite, quality textures like cashmere.

If you follow along on Instagram, you know I’ve been living in Fabiana Filippi, an Italian line of cashmere. It’s textures like this that remind me that the quality of what’s in your closet extends far past having a million things you can only wear once.

I think it’s actually one of my favorite lessons I’ve learned as an adult, and one I’m trying to instill in my children. Though splurges might seem heavy on the wallet, if it’s something that’ll last for years to come and can be transitional (and comfortable – huge for me), it’s always worth the money in my opinion. What are your thoughts on quality vs quantity?

Thank you Fabiana Filippi for sponsoring this post!

I’ll be honest, I usually find it terribly difficult to shop for men, namely my husband, Reid, and my dad. Something about trying to find an item they won’t already have or an idea out of the box – whereas women are so simple in this way. Give us a bag or jewelry and chances are we’ll be happy.

But I will say, over the years, I’ve realized the key is to buying something men actually use or wear. Because at the end of the day, guys are just as simple as women (if not more), but gifts for them need to be useful as opposed to something we think they want.

Without a doubt, I always head to Nordstrom to shop for the two most important men in my life – and it hasn’t failed yet. Nordstrom makes it easy. For my dad, I treat him to basics that he forgets to stock up on for himself. Like some nicer socks or even pants – things he needs and wears daily, but doesn’t necessarily think to shop for often enough. Everything in the store is quality, so I always see my dad wearing whatever I bought him. It’s cute.

Some great basics below:

For Reid, I usually pick a couple things, send him a link at work and he lets me know if it’s a winner or not. Maybe it’s not a surprise, but hey, I don’t want to waste my time or money, you know? Why not see if it’ll work? Other times, I’ll bite the bullet and buy, say two work shirts for him in two colors and sizes and we return one. It works well as Nordstrom makes returns SUPER easy and they have all the brands Reid likes like Ray-Ban Aviators this James Perse tee, and our twinning Levi’s jackets. Nordstrom has such a big inventory that we always find something that works, pretty seamlessly too. Win-win. And I gotta be grateful for a guy who is OK with a twinning moment, right?

But more than that, I’m grateful to have found someone who makes a decade feel like a day, dinner feel like a date, the load feel only half as heavy, and twinning feel like winning. Pardon the cheesy pun.

Thank you Nordstrom for partnering on this post!

GIFT IDEAS

I’m not sure about you, but I LOVE boots and LA’s version of winter, not the Midwest’s.  I like to ease into the chill with the option of driving 1 hour to the mountains. Can you relate? I recently found these boots that look like chic hiking boots. They were comfy as I wore them around Echo Park and a nice heel. What is your favorite cold weather outfit?

I recently came across these jeans as I was shopping for our big trip next month and loved the rips and price tag, under $80! Along with good rips, I thought I’d need a cozy cardigan for the snowy days Colorado is having. What are your favorite layers?
