More Summer Weekend Faves

//

Memorial Day weekend was spent with Reid’s parents and sister and niece. We had a full house and lots of eating out and fun cousin time. We took them to Hollywood and the walk of fame, Rodeo Drive, Laguna Beach, and to see our cabin in Lake Arrowhead. It was a packed 4 days with lots of traffic and quality time together.  I’m still trying to catch a nap! On Memorial Day, we caught up with friends at the Montage Hotel which happens to have an awesome beach, picnic lunch, and ended at the top of the world park in Laguna Beach. It took a little hike and I’m not going to lie my legs were super sore from a long day. I wore the comfiest maxi dress, arch support slides and statement earrings. However, the views on top were worth the trip up. All in all, a great weekend and lots of memories.

There’s so much change happening around our house right now, but I’m loving every minute of it. Even if not being able to fit in my old jeans like I used to is part of it, it’s fine by me because life is slowly but beautifully changing while we make way for a new baby boy this fall. And in the meantime, it seems fitting that I also turn a new leaf with my fragrance selection as well.

I love wearing perfume and developing kind of a “signature scent.” But just like everything else, every once in a while, I like to mix it up—usually around the seasonal change. And now that summer is practically here, so is my new fragrance by Vince Camuto.

Have you tried the new fragrance by Vince Camuto? It’s so feminine and just makes me feel effortlessly chic. It was created in collaboration with celebrated perfumer Steve DeMercado and made to capture the essence of the modern American woman’s lifestyle. Who doesn’t want a fragrance like that? I’m absolutely loving it and look at that bottle! So not only does it smell amazing, but the bottle will make a beautiful statement on your dresser or vanity.

Embrace change with me ladies and mix up things up a bit. Grab a new fragrance or shake up your look—you won’t regret it, I promise! And check out my sandals and bag while you’re at it!

Thank you Vince Camuto for sponsoring this post!

20 Weeks

Halfway there this week and a lot of you have asked how I’m feeling. While I’m so grateful to have the hemorrhaging behind us,  I’m feeling lots of fatigue, leg pain, and let’s face it I can barely face an afternoon without dreaming of a nap. What is super cool, is feeling baby boy move, and hearing the kids baby boy name suggestions from John to Isaac to even suggesting their own names. Original eh?

Hello second trimester! I’m happy to announce the baby weighs 10.5 ounces and roughly the size of a banana! While he FEELS a lot heavier than carrying around a banana, there is consolation in knowing we’re halfway to meeting our little guy face to face!

I’m currently craving . . . .salads! I cannot get enough and anything covered in salt. Real healthy. However, I make my homemade dressing recipe daily and if you have a new favorite, email me!

As for preparation, we have cleared a potential room for the baby – and no new baby gear to report other than two Pack ‘n Plays and 2 diapers bags. I’m finally getting comments often like – “Wow you really popped!” and “Do you know what you’re having?” But its really our kids who make it most fun by rubbing my belly daily, saying prayers for baby boy, and asking me every day if he moved and how’s he doing. I’m loving experiencing this with them, through their little eyes! I feel really grateful for that, melting all the leg pain and making all of those 50 trips to the bathroom, worth every trip. God’s gifts are good. Happy 20 weeks baby!

our living room aka my first office where I wrote and nursed my babies!
My dear friend, Georgia Bateman, took these pics in front of this church with red doors. These were my first blog photos. As I look through these pictures, with the kids much younger, I’m reminded it took so much effort to write and get pictures, in between diapers and lunches, but it was clearly a PASSION and I’m beyond grateful I can do it as a job today.
Today I want to share something a little different, but a topic I get a lot of requests for—the story of how and why I started blogging. I gathered some of the most frequently asked questions surrounding this subject and answered them for you guys. I love it when I get questions, so please keep them coming (comments on here or on Instagram) and maybe we can do more posts like this moving forward about various topics.
But without further ado, here are the questions and answers on blogging!

Who told you to start your business?

My friend Karla @karlareed told me I needed to start sharing my outfits on Instagram because I had a knack. I told her I’d give it a whirl because I really needed an outlet from the daily mom grind of my husband working late and lotssss of diapers. It’s crazy how something so amazing started with a simple suggestion from a friend.

What were you doing before your business?

I was a full-time mom of 4 kids, ages ranging from 6 to 1. Before that, I was an event planner.

How did you know what to name your blog?

I went back and forth about naming my blog “Shalice Noel” because so many people don’t pronounce my name right, but I always loved my middle name. So, I put both together and I liked the ring of it. Shalice Noel was born.

What inspired you to start your business?

I remember sitting at the edge of my bed, praying a desperate prayer, “God I need to supplement our income. I’d love to work from home and it has to be a pretty special job because I have a houseful of children.” And with that, left the prayer and kept being a full-time mom. Fast forward two years, I heard about rewardstyle, signed up as fast as I could, and started to make commission checks. It almost brings tears to my eyes thinking about how grateful I was for my first check! I could stay home with my babies, share my love of fashion and get paid. It’s really special and I don’t take it for granted.

What is the most challenging thing about having an influencer business?

Staying creative and not comparing your business to someone else’s.

What would you tell yourself when you first started?

Haters gonna hate, keep taking risks, be kind and work hard!

Is there anything that helped your business?

When my husband started helping me. I think we grew closer in our relationship and his business know-how helped strengthen my business overall.

What tools or apps have helped your business?

If I had to narrow it down to two, the Facetune app for photo editing and Freshbooks for accounting.

I hope you guys enjoyed this and it answered some of the questions you’ve had about how and why I got started in this crazy blogging and influencer world. Like I said above, if you have more questions about any topic, send them on in because I’d like to start doing more reader-inspired posts!

denim jacket and similar // dress and a maternity version // bag // earrings // baseball hat // sunglasses // sneakers and similar (size up)

I’m not a fan of complicated outfits, so I steer clear of them with tried and true basics like a black maxi, denim jacket and sneakers. This month, I have 3 doctor appointments, soccer camp, what feels like a gazillion trips up to Lake Arrowhead mountain to work on our A Frame renovation, etc. So spare time isn’t on my list. Here’s a short list of cute denim jackets to help you transition from Spring to Summer and that much anticipated summer vacation. How’s your week looking?

If I’m being honest, it’s really difficult to set up and execute individual dates with my children. Especially when you have more than one, the effort to single one out for one-on-one time and find a sitter for the other three and manage it all can be a challenge. Of course it’s worth it though, and when it does work out, I value the time so much. I have no idea how, but I was recently able to have one of these dates with my oldest daughter and it just felt so special.

On this particular morning (key time for my kids, as they’re happiest in the morning!), we visited a local coffee shop—Maru Coffee—and my 8 year old ordered her usual chocolate croissant and me, a matcha latte. We talked about how she is, I asked her if I could improve anything, and I tried to get her to share her chocolate croissant, keyword—tried! I’m always shocked how a little, and I mean like 20-30 minutes, of face time (the kind without the screen) bears so much fruit. She was noticeably happier throughout the day after she and I had that alone time together. She was heard and we bonded—something that’s so important for moms and daughters.

I kept telling her how cute my hat looked on her! I just adore her sporty chic personal style, which is one thing I encourage my children to express. Like today, I picked out the dress she wore, however, she chose the silver shoes, white hat, and you may not see it, but a turquoise necklace. I try and give my kids the opportunity to be creative when they dress instead of controlling all the details. Any seasoned mother would tell you, you pick your battles, right? I continue to encourage her (and all my kids) to express her style in the way she dresses, the sports she chooses, instruments to play, etc. I want her to know that the most important thing is to just always be true to herself.

Mother’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. Of course partly because I’m a mom and I love having my kids to celebrate with, but I also just think it’s important to thank and recognize the women in our lives who helped mold us into who we are. One of the ways I like to share this love with my own mom is by sending flowers. Flowers just do something to the heart that few other gifts can.
This year I decided to try 1-800 Flowers and I was shocked at the flower quality and selection for every price point. I live far away from my mom, so it’s important that I can send her some flowers to let her know I’m thankful for all she’s done for me—everything I appreciate now that I’m a mom.
That said, if you’re looking for a way to send flowers across the country or even just across town, I highly recommend checking out 1-800 Flowers. No matter what your budget is, I guarantee you’ll be able to find something your mom loves!

Click here and enter promo code 25MOM at checkout, to receive 25% off from 5/8-5/10.

Happy Mother’s Day to those who have moms, are mom’s and future mom’s, I celebrate you <3

denim shorts and similar// balloon sleeve blouse and similar // sunglasses // trench // wedge sandals // leopard clutch

I feel like I’m way too old to be wearing tiny shorts so I’ve been looking for longer distressed shorts. Here I’m wearing some faves from FRAME and also wearing some longer version, because I’m not in college anymore. I love how denim shorts are terribly versatile. Here they are dressed up with wedges, a blouse and a trench or dressed down with a swimsuit and flip flops for the beach. I feel like they’re a great investment for any spring or summer wardrobe, so get your favorites now before they’re gone. Speaking of back in stock, my blouse is back in stock!
