Hair Secret: DPHUE x Apple Cider Vinegar

Everyone wants beautiful bouncy and healthy hair but not everyone is sure how to achieve it. My hair often suffers from dryness, overheating with hair straighteners and lots of hair products, especially from events and photo shoots. So, in between washes, I substitute apple cider vinegar or ACV instead of shampoo. The beauty and simplicity of ACV naturally cleanses the scalp without stripping the hair of necessary oils. My hair after washing with ACV not only maintains fresh hair color in between salon visits, but I also noticed it became softer and shinier. So, how does it work you ask? It’s simple, alternate shampoo days for ACV hair rinse and follow with conditioner. I love how bouncy my hair feels afterwards and totally recommend it! Styling tip: for my hair, using ACV once a month was fine, but using it every day did not achieve the results I wanted, and after washing with ACV, add Argan Oil therapy to protect from UV color fade as well as protect from heat styling without weighing it down. Brilliant. I love using natural ingredients for my hair.

Believe it or not, it’s back to school time! I would venture to say that usually this doesn’t mean great excitement or big smiles. But if we’re searching for the silver lining–and we are–then the best part about Back to School is the shopping. Since my littles have uniforms, we have fun finding pieces that suit each child’s personality and style. A big hit with my middle little were these Steve Madden JSM1 sneakers: purple, covered in glitter, and perfect for climbing and running. Since purple glitter really isn’t my thing, I went with the versatile Steve Madden “Austin” chelsea boot. It is a well-known fact that in shopping, everyone should win. Spiderman!

. . . at the offices, not the theatre, but still smiling!

It is always amazing how the most wonderful plan can go awry with kids. It seems so lovely when you are planning it in your head. There are Christmas carols in the background and everybody is smiling and a light snow is softly floating around us as we walk to The Nutcracker at the Joffrey. Right. So what really happened on the day of the show was that we somehow went to the Joffrey office–walking in Hurricane Katrina wind, no snow in sight–instead of the theater, making us late, which in turn had us waiting around in the upstairs holding area. Everybody really loved that part. So far, so bad. And then we were seated, behind the orchestra pit! And then … it was magic. I really can’t say it any other way. My girls were entranced; my boys were enthralled; the hubs and I were thrilled. It was everything you would expect from The Nutcracker by the Joffrey Ballet Company. The music, the jumping, the beautiful, beautiful ballerinas … and to top it all off, the Radison Blu hosted a family event for Friends of the Joffrey right after the performance. The kids are still talking about the face painting, ballet slippers, and Rudolph crafts! It was a night for the books. Many many thanks to the Joffrey Ballet for the wonderful night!

If I’m honest, I used to be the one in line at a big box retailer at 5:30 AM, not even sure what I was going for, but it was exciting. Not anymore. While I wouldn’t advise settling up a tipi on a windy day, it’s a great way to get my crew excited. The kiddos are not normally fans of pictures, and standing still or smiling on cue is not their cup of tea. However, when we asked them after church if they wanted to go on an adventure in the woods with binoculars and a tipi, they were all in. And it didn’t even involve snacks. This tipi from Knight Raven was custom made for us, light grey and tie dye, with some crochet detailing. Learn more about customizing your tipi here. It is gorgeous, so the fact that it’s not too big for the living room is actually relevant. It even manages to fit all four kids and a small family of pets, but only if the pets aren’t expected to breathe.
