How to: Winter Layers in LA

It’s back to school this week, and although I’m feeling the pains of routine (i.e. getting the kids out the door by 8am), it’s good to be back. This winter, it’s all about upping your layering game. And apparently January in LA mandates all the layers as its been so chilly and wet. Here, I paired a bell sleeve sweater and studded military jacket with simple jeans and heels. I love that I could also pair this sweater with a black leather jacket for a black and gray look. Stylist tip: order one size up in sweaters or tees to get that cozy off-the-shoulder-look. And THANK YOU for entering the Jane Pope ring giveaway! 5 Coated Denim with Nordstrom

Partnering with Nordstrom is always a favorite job because their style and selection never disappoints, which makes my job that much easier. Today I’m going to go out on a limb and make a case for the lesser known cousin to traditional denim, the coated denim. With all the denim everywhere, it’s always good to mix it up. Here are my top 5 faves from Nordstrom.  The burgundy denim boasts a post-Christmas, binge-friendly lycra waistband, a flattering leg, and not to mention, an awesome price. As soon as these arrived in the mail, I tried them on, did my usual tight-jean dance and called these a winner. As for styling tips, I went with my usual size and paired it with an oversize distressed sweater and my husband’s scarf. The latter was meant to be a Christmas gift to him, but like I always tell the kids, “Sharing is Caring.” See also how I styled a scarf with Nordstrom HERE and shop my coated denim look below. 2016 A Year in Review

To be honest, when it comes to ponchos, I haven’t always been a fan. They’re either oversized, the wrong print, or miss-styled. However, there are a few worth sharing here. I’m loving this camel print from FRYE, the color block of this TULEROSA poncho and yes I found this one  under $30. And I’m secretly hoping this cooler LA winter sticks around so I can sport this $50 cape too. Our morning started with puff pancakes (see the recipe here), a little Boxing day shopping, then packing for our trip to the mountains. Hope your Monday is wonderful!

Ramp up your basics with a camel coat (3/4 sleeve), and updated heels. I’m loving these slouchy jeans and cashmere sweater both from Vince. I tend to gravitate towards classic pieces, like a stripe top and flattering jeans, because I’ll probably wear them more than I’d like to admit, and they never go out of style. One Coat to Spice Things Up

Sometimes you need one coat in your closet to spice things up. Well, this is it. I’m loving this combo – lots of gray (preferably off the shoulder and cozy) and multi-colored faux fur. Even though I cannot wear this coat past 11 o’clock or so in LA, I make the most of it. This sweater is lightweight and perfect for layering. For Christmas, I just wanna get all my sisters sweaters because they are so good. I hope you are more ahead on the Christmas cards and gifts than I am.
