2 weeks moved into our new home in California and I scheduled a brow appointment. Read more about our move here.

Not just any appointment. My make-up artist Morgan Grimes suggested I get a brow tint and shape. I got a lot of questions about my experience yesterday, so I wrote about it below.

What is a brow tint and shape?

The brow artist essentially color “tints” your brows a desired color, I chose a shade darker than my hair color but you can discuss this with your brow artist ahead of time. Along with tinting my brows a darker shade to make them look “colored in,” she also shaped my brows. First, she outlined them, like a stencil and showed me how they looked before she went in to wax and pluck them. Since I recently used retinol products on my face, she suggested that we tweeze the hairs at the top of my brows, since waxing after retinol can thin the skin. I had no idea!

I can’t remember the last time I had my brows shaped. She went a shade darker than my hair and shaped my brows using waxing method (at the lower part of my brows) and tweezing on the top portion of my brows. My right eyebrow has been thicker and making my right eye more hooded, so I knew that I needed a professional to even them out. Keep in mind, your brows are supposed to look like cousins, not twins. Around 30 min later, I felt like Brooke Shields with a new set of brows. Knowing that I have 5 kids and barely any time for myself most days, you girls know I’ll gladly take any shortcuts. I’ll see her in 6 weeks and look forward to that nice quiet time laying flat on her table without any child asking me to cut their apple or help with homework. When was the last time you got your brows done?

Fall is my favorite season to dress for! The layers, the cardigans, the wide leg pants and belts get me so excited!

Home is a Place

by Shalice Noel

Since moving last week, I realized home is a physical place. Read about that post here. I agree, home is where your immediate family is, but it is also a physical place that feels like home. Being back at our old stomping grounds in Los Angeles feels familiar with many good memories. We are thrilled to be back, including our kids who are begging to go to Lido and Laguna Beach.

We also learned that a place can bring our your worst and best. For us, California brings out our best. Maybe it’s the perennial sun, the business parters, or the friends we left here? All reasons that make this location feel more familiar. Despite the tax implications of this move, home brings out our best.

Are you home? Do you agree, home is a physical place and some places just feel more like home?

Chat soon,

We left Georgia on a dark Thursday morning and arrived in SoCal on Monday. It was an intense 3 days of driving and one day of resting with family in Nebraska. What a journey it was! Thankfully we missed hurricane Hillary and drove straight to the house. We’ve been unpacking, waiting for furniture, internet, and having friends over to swim. No complaints here.

I thought it was interesting that the same friends who have been over to swim said that we were the only family they knew who moved away and then returned. To be honest, we like being the forerunners. We are predicting more boomerangs to come.

To those asking about school, before we left, the kids had a slow start to school in Georgia. We will place them back in charter like they were when we left two years ago. I’m praying for a smooth transition back.

I feel like we were blessed to have a second chance coming back to California where we thrived for almost 6 years.

For those of you wondering why we moved and why so fast, read all about it HERE.

Tomorrow, movers move in our furniture and I’ll be posting a house tour shortly.

Hope you have a lovely weekend. Follow the blog and socials for updates!

Our Exciting News

by Shalice Noel

While my account was gone, you may have missed this

Remember the old Sandra Bullock movie, While You Were Sleeping?  That’s a bit how I feel right now.  We’ve had a lot of life changing events going on the last two weeks and you might be shocked now that my account is breathing again.  I couldn’t share all this exciting news until now.  Boy, that was a stressful 16 days. Read about it HERE.  Thank you for all the support and community you provided while my account was in jeopardy.

Here is the backstory to catch you all up.

My last post on @shalicenoel was finding moments to teach your children to find the silver lining in all circumstances.  I was majorly tested on this one.  The day my account was taken down is the same day we signed a lease for a new house.  Yes, a new house!  You might ask, but you just built a house in Georgia?  True and technically it’s still our house.  (Let me know if you are looking for a house in Georgia). Reid and I loved the design process of the new build in Georgia, but our work has always been in California.  Namely, Reid has been working remote, traveling back and forth and our clothing label Shalice Noel, needs to be based in LA again.  As you might remember, we almost moved back to California fall of 2022, but our kids were not on board, and our housing search ended up flat. So, Reid and I held back on the move. Meanwhile, we made some dear friendships in Georgia that we will miss greatly!

Read more about that decision HERE.

To our surprise, the kids’ hearts began to change.  The girls and I had made a trip to LA last spring, and we all realized it felt like home to us.  We can’t explain it.  Memories flooded back of me being pregnant with Levi walking the streets of Old Town Pasadena and the girl’s excitement over our favorite restaurants, beaches and shops was thrilling to hear.  It was at that time that we decided that LA was home.

As you can imagine, the search for a place for a family of 7 + dog is quite the feat. Read, “IMPOSSIBLE.” We never stopped looking for a house in the Pasadena area and dreamed of getting our old house back. It almost took a year, but we finally found a house and we can’t wait to show you. We’re praising God for opening doors, literally. While I was away for 2 years, I missed my “team,” aka Felicia my photographer and Morgan, my make-up artist who I was never able to replace. I am thrilled to be back with artist who inspire me, close to work, business partners, and areas to shoot. I don’t think I can communicate enough how excited we all are and what’s to come.

I guess you can say, this is the part of While You Were Sleeping when Peter wakes up engaged. Next week I’ll be back to posting our California lifestyle.  Hello, culture shock!  Rural north Atlanta is a whole different culture to Los Angeles, but I think we will jump back into the rapids just fine.

We appreciate your love and support!! I’ve missed you all so much.  We look forward to being back in our old stomping grounds.

In the meantime, subscribe to our newsletter so you don’t miss out on anything. Follow my back up account @ shopshalicenoel and check here for any updates.

Who wants a house tour when we arrive?

After what happened August 1st, read about it HERE, I have learned that you can take precautions to protect your IG account. I got asked this a lot, “how can I protect my account?”

I spoke with my friend Courtney at “A Thoughtful Place” who got the blue checkmark the day that I lost my account for added security. Don’t mess around. It is great to take all the natural precautions.

1 Click two-factor authentication and set it up asap.

2 Buy the blue check mark $14 a month (sounded like a gimmick to me at first, but I do think it helps)

3 Purchase social media insurance. A friend of a friend uses NOTCH. Not gonna lie, after this nightmare, I would consider it.

4 This may be a long shot, but GET A CONTACT AT META ASAP. They are the ones who can speed up your inquiry.

Was this helpful? Let me know in the comments,

Do you have any tips? Anything work for you?

In the meantime, follow me on @shopshalicenoel on Instagram. I am posting what I usually post on my main account.

Thanks for reading!

Shalice

Most of you know that I’ve been a Misa Los Angeles fan for a LONG time. What’s not to love about this dress. It has a killer pattern, bell sleeves, and perfect length to wear with pumps or boots. Did I mention that it also works great with a denim jacket? Well, it does. If you see me at Gjelina in Venice wearing it, say hi.

Hope I have convinced you in these 6 sentences, if not, try it for yourself. Sizes sell out fast.

The next hardest decision will be, twiggy dress with a blazer or denim jacket?

The Modal deep V tee is a best seller. Size down in the white

Boyfriend tee runs large, size down. It is so soft you can sleep in it. Yes I have.

NSALE last call

by Shalice Noel

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends Sunday!

I have a confession to make, I changed my mind about this Levi’s denim jacket. It is in fact, the perfect wash and the denim is so good. I bought it last week and awaiting its arrival. You may remember on my previous post about the NSALE, I said to not buy this denim jacket since the discounted price is similar to the retail price at the Levi’s store. HOWEVER, the wash is so good that it is worth the $85 price tag is still a steal. Do you agree?

I’m also loving these Lunya silk pj’s and Cle de peau skin set that’s an obvious score with so many high end pieces.
