5 Coffee shops in LA

1 The Boy and the Bear 2. Republik Coffee 3. Intelligentsia 4. Blue Bottle Coffee 5. NEW! Alfreds coffee time (the westside favorite made its way to Pasadena and we’re so happy it did) Have you tried any of these?

Even though we enjoyed one day in Pasadena, California last week, didn’t stop by our old house. Frankly, even driving by is too emotional. There are too many sweet memories in that house like when Levi learned to walk in that very kitchen. But alas, we continue to make memories just in a new place. I’m training myself to see daily “glimmers” in my life, work and home. So instead of seeing triggers, I’m training myself to be aware of slices of the Lord’s goodness and grace (Levi’s smile, the blessing of my work, Reid’s love and dedication, my girls helping making dinner, and my boys mowing the grass) all of these things ignite a heart of gratitude. What do you think, have you tried looking for “glimmers” instead of “triggers”? I’m convinced this is the secret to a content life. What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Happy Friday eve x

It’s almost Father’s Day, so I asked Reid what he wants. He’s incredibly good at these round ups and I usually shop off of this list for fathers day! He’s super hard working and the best dad so I’m excited to make his dad extra special! I remember my late father-in-law telling me while Reid and I were dating, that “Reid will be a great dad one day” and boy was he right. He’s much more patient than I am, and even more sacrificial. This Father’s Day, how are you making the men in your life feel loved and appreciated ?

Spending the week in Florida. A friend of mine said this is the best week to visit. I have to agree with her. We’re enjoying light crowds, turquoise waters, and cool evenings. What more could we ask for? Well, maybe a chef to cook for my teens who eat 24/7. Shop my set in the above widget. I love love this set since it’s so versatile. Got white jeans? Pair them with this stunning vida top and Pintail sandals with arch support. The latter of which is a great travel shoe for all my friends going to Italy for the summer, so jelly!

Some of you know that last week, we unknowingly burned poison ivy in our fire pit. We inhaled the smoke and within 24 hours my face swelled to double its size. I could barely see through my right eye. My three children also showed signs of a severe allergy but thankfully not as bad as my reaction. It was scary. I’m sharing this to caution you to first inspect the wood that you use before you use it. My kids usually love to throw sticks and vines into the fire. Unfortunately, one of those vines was poison ivy! I’m sad because our fire pit times was one of family bonding and laughter.

I didn’t want to take the steroid shot due to awful side effects, so I treated it naturally. I know some do not have that choice especially if your throat swells too (pharyngitis). I treated it with homeopathic, and drank lots of liquids. Topically, I used Zanfel, Tecnu, baking soda and fresh aloe from our little plant. If you have it currently, I encourage you to seek your health practitioners advice. It’s not something to mess around with.

As I write, I’m on day 7, and thankfully feeling and looking more like myself. My face is peeling and very dry, but I’m thankful that me and my kids are on the road to recovery and way better than we were a couple days ago. Progress! However, we are itching like crazy still on our stomachs, arms and legs. I read that you have a severe case if your skin feels like leather, and ours does.

Have you or someone that you knew experienced an allergic reaction to poison ivy? I’m feeling brave so I’m sharing my before and after picture below. I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
