Over charcuterie and brunch on a rainy 60 degree day in LA, Revolve kicked off their collaboration with darling designer For Love & Lemons. Lauren Yerkes of Revolve said, “We have created a strong partnership together over the years, and this capsule is a reflection of both brands taking FL&L’s most loved silhouettes to the next level.” How so, you ask? You can expect to see a mix of ruffles and Hawaiian flavors, corals, espadrilles and drool worthy lace-up heels. And there we have it, a marriage of flirty and fun, sophisticated and edgy. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m no gym rat, and machines generally intimidate me. So you can imagine my excitement level at meeting with a trainer at Equinox. (It hovered around nil.) But I’m proud to say that I survived the first meeting unscathed and motivated! I met with Nick and discussed diet, health history and my usual workout … or lack thereof. We also discussed my fitness goals and what I wanted to accomplish. So, without further ado, here are my tips for Getting Started, aka Actually Getting to the Gym For Real.

  1. Set up a time with a trainer. Actual appointments are harder to forget about, and trainers will even give you a roadmap to your fitness goals. (Read more here)
  2. Be realistic. Think small and baby steps. (This is especially hard for me as I want immediate results.)
  3. Be consistent. Nick said that changes only come with dedication, as in at least 3 x a week of gym time.
  4. Be patient! Worthwhile results and good habits take time. (Yeah, so good luck with this one.)

And yes, I ‘m still sore from the Day 1 with Nick! Stay tuned for the results. I’ll keep you posted on challenges and lessons learned. Can’t wait!

Top 5 Cover-ups

by Shalice Noel

swim cover up5I like my swim cover to double as a top for when I want to grab breakfast at Urth Caffé with a friend or pick up my girls from school. I like options. And yes, I plan on wearing number 2, to both breakfast, school pick-up and Manhattan Beach, why not? What do you like to wear to the beach?

Shop my top 5 below:

1. This white and crochet jumpsuit by Anna Kosturova spells #MOMBOSS and ready for cocktails by the pool.

2. Not from the cover-up department, but this Free People top with pom pom’s should definitely be on the beach. Amen? One in every color PLEEEEESE.

3. Love this understated white romper by O’Neill with cute embroidered details.

4. A crochet kimono is just as important as the right SPF, this one by La Blanca is no exception.

5. Simple and classy lace up by Eberjay can also be worn with jeans and a tank underneath for later. PS. Don’t forget THIS TOWEL

If you’re still in search of a SWIM SUIT, these are my faves currently:

1. This nude one-piece, is ALL YES.

2. This striped bandeau is art!

3. Gotta love a classic scalloped one-piece!

Cold Shoulder Stripe

by Shalice Noel

DSC_1825   DSC_1843   Ironically, even though the calendar says Spring, I’m all about the sweaters lately. Chunky, sleeveless, oversize, cropped, and yes, cold shoulder. I want them all. And thanks to El Niño, we actually have an excuse to wear one. Score! I love a sweater that works dressed down with my favorite beat up grey chucks and dressed up with my olive square toe sandals. Options are good. Also key is the demure shoulder slit and slightly oversize fit to balance over skinny jeans. So flattering. A perfect marriage of stripe and cold shoulder love. Bon weekend everyone X

The temps are getting warmer and it’s almost festival season! Reid and I celebrated it prematurely over mushroom and truffle oil pizza in Highland Park, LA. Yum. If you’re also heading over to the festival, HERE is a great site for some hair-style inspiration because let’s face it, festivals are made for rockin’ hair styles. And yeah, they’re also totally made for new dresses. Below are four of my favorite festival ready frocks (say it fast!), but sizes are limited!

Margaret and Katherine Kleveland had a mission to provide responsibly-sourced high fashion pieces at attainable prices, which seems almost like a misnomer. But they manage to pull it off, with most of their gorgeous items under $200. Their vibe is very California-cool with loose, flattering pieces that fit most, if not all, body types. I’m already eyeing THIS blouse.  They also sell children’s ponchos that are sure to be drool-worthy on any toddler. And I kind of love supporting moms doing what they love, especially if they are genius at it. DÔEN HERE

I always gravitate toward nude sandals and these comfy wedges from Børn are no exception. I brought them on our weekend excursion to Manhattan Beach and they were perfect for the beach and walking around town. I prefer them styled with an oversize tunic and cutoffs. The nude color actually elongates the leg and I can definitely chase my almost three-year-old in them. While I can’t promise these will slow your toddler down, you can at least catch up to him without sacrificing your style. Who doesn’t want to look brunch ready? I also like these and this pair. What’s your favorite? Check them out on: www.bornshoes.com.

If you haven’t heard of M.Gemi, it’s a hidden gem of a shoe company, handmade with beautiful craftsmanship in Italy and sold direct online without a middleman to keep prices fair. I bought my first pair of M.Gemi suede boots a couple months ago and was impressed right off the bat with the gorgeous presentation, right down to the personalized tag. As you can imagine, the suede boots were buttery soft and perfect. And because they’re brilliant too, they introduce a new style of shoe every Monday for those of us with obsessive shoe habits … which is probably bad for my wallet but extremely good for my shoe fetish. Speaking of, I’m obsessed with these white Proprio pumps. They are terrific with a pleated skirt or shorts and a blouse. The latter seems to be my weekend look on repeat. Many thanks to M. Gemi for elevating it. Ps. These are limited edition – so get yours before they’re sold out!
