Have you ever hiked up the Hollywood Hills? It’s so peaceful above LA – just fields, walk ways, and silence. You would never know that the concrete jungle is just below. Here I’m wearing a new favorite graphic blazer, slouchy tee, cropped jeans and can’t-stop-wearing lace up heeled sandals. Don’t judge. Get your own and you’ll do the same. Also, plan a date to jog or picnic on these Hollywood Hills and you’ll thank me later.

If you’re looking for that one-of-a-kind vintage Chanel, look no further than Rice and Beans Vintage. What I love about this Chanel backpack, besides the fact that it is Chanel and gorgeous, is that it is hand’s free. I can carry my essentials and still have hands available for my little ones who invariably come with all those spills and hugs. A great thing to keep in mind about feature pieces …  always pair your feature piece–for me it’s my jacket with all its intricate lace–with a subdued color like black so as to keep it chic and not too loud. For instance, if this jacket was white, I would wear white jeans. It’s all about balance. And in order to let the jacket and Chanel shine, I chose my go-to nude sandals because that’s all I really needed for date night. Anyone who knows me well knows that I stay away from too many ruffles and neon pink, the latter of which makes me gag. However, Chloè’s new line is convincing me otherwise.  That said, I do feel more like myself when I pair these white ruffles with an edgy leather jacket and versatile tan boots. This look also works with wide leg pants and Chanel flats to dress it up.

 Sporting these white ruffles, I can’t help but feel more feminine and girly.  It’s all about options and using the same pieces multiple ways. And should you (or your pint sized loved one) spill salsa on your romantic ruffles, there’s always a tide stick.

LA has been feeling a lot like NYC lately and I’m not complaining. The days are cool-ish, slightly overcast, and oh-so-cozy. I’ll take any excuse to layer – preferably with a sweatshirt dress and leather jacket. Both of which work for date night. I’m all about an effortless (i.e. 5 minute) look because life is busy and once that sitter is through the door, so am I. I know I said “cozy” … but definitely try and stay away from the Christmas print flannels and oversize college sweatshirts. Instead, it’s all about balancing luxe details (like a leather jacket) with cozy basics (like this sweatshirt pullover) that fit and feel perfect.

5 Kid Friendly LA

LACMA  Greenery, great art, sculpture and if your kids aren’t into 18th century Nöel Hallé oil on canvas, square sculptures that are the perfect backdrop for Christmas pictures. Gorgeous. Located: 5905 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, 

WINSOME Awesome food in a very laid-back, kid-friendly environment. The friendly receptionist handed each of my four kids a pipe cleaner (in their favorite color) and then took us to the outdoor seating. I enjoyed my duck egg toast amidst lovely olive bushes and indigo pillows, and nobody cared about my chattering kiddos. Between the fact that my kids cleaned their plates, the brilliant and hard-working pipe cleaners, and the ambiance, Winsome is a score in my book. Don’t pass this one up. Located: 1115 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles.

DINOSAUR COFFEE  The indoor/outdoor seating was convenient, and the staff was friendly despite our 6 year old touching the sea salt brownies (which turned into a great reason to add it to our purchases). Also noted, great white space for that still life instagram in case you’re into that sort of thing. The almond milk latte was nutty and rich, and when we left, we could see the HOLLYWOOD sign on the horizon. So LA. Located: 4334 W Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles.

LACY PARK 30 acres of park that is bike, kid and dog friendly. We can’t get enough of this park. It’s free during the week, and its $4 for non- residents on the weekends. It’s our kids’ favorite so far. Located: 1485 W. Virginia Rd, San Marino.

MANHATTAN BEACH This is our favorite beach! Don’t forget the aquarium at the end of the pier with sea creatures and a touch pool. When you’ve had your beach fill, there’s plenty of restaurants, ice cream shops (coffee ice cream at Manhattan Beach Creamery!) and coffee hangs to walk to afterwards. Located: 400-500 The Strand, Manhattan Beach.

Some thoughts on Motherhood

Motherhood can be likened to bringing home macaroons from your breakfast meeting in your kids favorite colors- sounds perfect right? Until they run out of the house at first sight of the car in the driveway. And apparently, when one grabs your knees and the other dips the box, they eventually fall on the porch. Now you know. Sometimes your best intentions are met with the reality of life with kids.

While I learned my lesson after that day, I haven’t stopped bringing them little gifts. You learn, you grow, you change. No two seasons of life are the same, is that bad? No, it just demands for flexibility and letting go of always being in control. When I accept the spilled milk, the tattling, the interruption, the macaroons on the porch and compare them in light of the rewards of motherhood – a higher calling Gods entrusted to me and a humbling for my growth, it changes my attitude. I start to be thankful for those four lives God gave me. It’s not glamorous or easy. Its a daily choice I make everyday. After all, attitude is like a good photo editing filter. It can take a somewhat mundane scene from drab to crisp and beautiful.  Happy Mother’s Day to mothers, daughters, and mothers to be. What are some of your favorite memories of your mom? Since moving to Southern California in January, I haven’t wanted to leave. I mean, we moved to a vacation destination, right? However, I do plan on a short Palm Springs getaway with Reid, hopefully when my parents come visit. Fingers crossed! Here are some fun vacation essentials – a trench if it rains (in the desert of course, ha!), a crisp white shirt, stripes, and a dreamy ruffle dress.  All of which transitions nicely when you return home back to reality: school pick up and drop off, meetings, and sandy weekends at the beach.

Nordstrom Rack: Spring basics

Once a week we go on a day date which involves running errands to places like Home Depot and then rewarding ourselves with our new obsession: iced green boba tea. It’s sort of my new favorite date despite the extra long time spent staring at 2×4’s at Home Depot. Occasionally, I switch up this cute lace off the shoulder dress by wearing it as a tunic. I found it at Nordstrom Rack, which you gotta love as a go-to destination for affordable basics. They have a great selection and carry some of my favorite brands like rag + bone. You just have to shop fast because things sell out fast. And if you’ve followed me for a while, you know my favorite combination is rips, lace and nude sandals. Thankfully, I can always find at least one of those at the Rack. After all, you look best in what you FEEL like wearing.
