3 Things I’ve learned as a Mom:

1. Not everything will be perfect. Plan for the worst. In which case, my mom bag is stocked with lollipops, trail mix, almonds for me and hubby and Fig bars for the kids from Costco. I’ve learned these items make anything from traffic delays to waiting at the doctor’s office, MUCH smoother.

2. Enjoy the moments. This is harder than it reads. And to do this successfully you will have to say NO to what is good for what is BEST. Lots of discernment is needed to decide. Sometimes I give up potential brand partnerships and events, to spend quality time with my kids.

3. Don’t judge. Every mom and child is at a different place – I used to look at parenting so differently as a single – now I get it and give every mom some grace. Especially during that 4 pm, grocery store line when they’re grabbing for candy and chocolate. Been there. If you’re a mom, what have you learned, please share in the comments. Read more of my mother’s day commentary here.

I always loved sweaters, but especially ruffled sweaters. There’s something whimsical and feminine about a ruffled knit that I like to pair with rips or black raw hem jeans. Need some styling tips? I also love a ruffled sweater over a maxi dress and flats. Or wide leg pants and ruffled sweater. It gives raw rips that nouveau riche. What do you think? This weekend my mom comes so it’s a happy Friday indeed! See this post on ruffles for more inspiration.

I partnered with Sheryl from Walk in Wonderland to show two ways to wear stripes. They’re so classic and it was fun to see her sophisticated take and my ‘relaxed’ version. I met Sheryl when I first moved to LA and love hearing her adventures in and around Los Angeles with her and her husband (who shoots most of all of her work). When she’s not enjoying spicy food in and around the LA hot spots, she travels with her husband and runs the successful blog Walk In Wonderland. Which I’ll mention, is worth your time to check out. Also follow her on IG, @walkinwonderland. I’m so thankful to have met so many creative people since moving to LA a year ago that inspire me daily! See also HERE where I styled stripes. Thank you Sheryl for coming on the blog. Who inspires you?

Florals can sometimes be a closet conundrum. Full of potential, but you’re left without a clue as to how to wear them. As a stylist, the way to handle prints is this one fact: they compliment neutrals, denim, and monochrome pairings. Do try this at home. I like the pumps with a white dress or black jeans. See how I styled this gray sweater here. Do try this at home. Actually, I’m not joking, because they’re under $40 at Target. Speaking of exciting news, I’m super pumped (and nervous) to take over Who What Wear’s snapchat tomorrow, featuring how to style these floral pumps, tune in!

Valentines Day is coming up and Reid and I are headed someplace warm, sans kids. We’re super excited to get away and can’t wait for an excuse to sit by the pool without an interruption. So, this Valentines Day, I’m loving bright pink ruffles (no surprise), trusty Levis, and blush ankle strap heels. If you’re unsure how to style bright and loud colors, pair them with jeans and a muted suede trench. It looks a lot more pulled together. Since we’re talking about Valentine’s Day, here’s me and Reid’s engagement story if you missed it. Hope you are off to a lovely week!

You all know I’m obsessed with my faux leather leggings. Lately, to switch it up, I added this wine colored cropped version. Here I styled it with a long vest, turtleneck and a belt to cinch the waist and tie it all together. If I was really feeling playful, I’d add black nikes for the ‘ol school run. What do you think? Do you prefer black or wine? See this post featuring my fave $30 black faux leather leggings.

2 Ways to Elevate your Look

1.Take care of your clothes – press and dry clean them. This may sounds simple, but it makes a huge difference in the long run. 2. Invest in the right accessories, for example, my turtleneck is $30, my belt is $450, priorities. I will get a lot of mileage out of the belt. I save on simple basics but splurge on right high end accessories that will elevate any all black or faux leather legging look.

Feel free to share your tips in the comments, happy Monday!

LA has been around 50 degree’s every morning, so layers are non-negotiable. Here, I wore a camisole, soft sweater, distressed black jeans, and go-to black boots. This outfit would also look good with a denim jacket or a faux fur coat. These black layers are wonderful basics for your closet!

Is your work wardrobe slacking? You may be surprised what a couple updates will do to your overall look. Welcome the ruffle sleeve, the gray topper, the pencil skirt and over-the-knee-boots. These are some simple chic pieces that will finish any look. I can easily trade the boots for flats and a leather jacket, or the pencil skirt for skinny jeans. The options are limitless when you have neutral basics. See more workwear in THIS earlier post. What’s your favorite go-to look?

If you’re curious what all the hype is over Acai Bowls, why not try one at home? It’s my favorite on-the-go snack or breakfast and guess what – my kids love it! Once you find a combo you love (mine is goji and bee pollen), its sure to be a favorite. Don’t forget, goji berries have been known to boost the immune system, so no guilt here. Let me know what your favorite combination is.

My Favorite Acai Bowl

2 cups frozen Strawberries

2 frozen Bananas

Acai Powder

1 cup Almond Milk

2 T seed butter or Almond butter

1/2-1 T agave

Toppings

fresh fruit

Bee Pollen

Coconut flakes

Dried Goji Berries

Chia Seeds (optional)

Add all ingredients but the toppings into a blender. Go for a frozen yogurt consistency – add more almond milk if necessary. After its blended, drizzle agave and toppings, if using. Enjoy!

How was your weekend? If I’m honest, I’m lying in bed under the weather after one of our busiest weekends yet since moving to LA. Lots of fun projects and our first beach day of 2017, so no regrets. If you’re in need of some style inspiration for the week, wear camouflage! Here, I styled it with neutral grays  and a neutral bag. As a styling rule of thumb, treat camouflage like leopard. Don’t wear it head to toe, and compliment it with neutrals. Viola, weekday casual at its best.
