If you’re wondering what to wear when the weather is in between cold and hot, winter and spring, hot chocolate and iced coffee, the search is over. Enter the closet essentials: gray over-the-knee boots and a sweater dress. I’m always surprised how comfortable a sweater dress is, and don’t think  you can’t wear it with gray sneakers. See this post on cozy sweaters. What’s your cozy go-to?

An outfit to try this weekend? Ruffles, black jeans, and a cognac bag. I’m also loving EVERYTHING with a camel duster – because LA weather has not been beach friendly, but coat and jacket friendly. It’s also a great item to have in your closet. This weekend, we’re celebrating my daughter’s birthday, so I’m definitely running around in jeans, an easy top and cute shoes picking up last minute gifts. See also HERE how I styled ruffles. Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Few items steal the show like embroidered denim. I’m loving this trend for three reasons:

1. its here to stay
2. it’s easy to style
3. it looks great with a crisp white shirt, and everybody’s got one of those
Here I styled it with a creme mock-neck top, camel blazer and nude heels. I took advantage of Topshop’s take home service (have you heard of it?? It is as brilliant as it sounds). As soon as I tried on the embroidered denim, I was sold. It has a super flattering fit, from thigh to ankle, and I can’t wait to wear these with black boots and a leather jacket. You wouldn’t think so, but there really are so many options. Thankfully, as a busy wife and mom, I didn’t have to leave the house to try this hot trend. Between the love and the delivery (and option for no-hassle returns), this was my kind of shopping. Thank you Topshop for partnering on this post!

Photographer Justin Coit reached out to me with an idea.  He explained he was doing a photographic collection featuring families.  Our family caught his eye.  Of course we took him up on his idea.  The intent of the collection was to capture our family as we are.  That made me a bit nervous.  (Our Christmas card is never a perfectly posed picture, if you know what I mean) Behind the scenes is typically more crazy than what I see as beautiful and the lollipops eventually run out!

Photo day came on a warm Saturday in January.  We told the kids we were going to the beach and someone was going to pictures of us playing.  We all love the surf and sand, but were hoping to keep the kids out of the water.  (You know, so we’d look more perfect)  They had their complaints, but once we got there and we took our first photo together, with lollipops, they were sold.  The kids quickly took to Justin – after all he brought them juice boxes and a kite – the boys kept grabbing stuff and the girls kept saying photos were never more fun. We ended up getting soaked and full of sand, but have no regrets.  This is my family.  From the beach to the pier, the entire project was natural and fun.  It was a beautiful day of beautiful moments spent with those I love most.  Thank you, Justin, for capturing these moments so beautifully.

Since my parents are in town, we’re having a couple short dates. I’m loving a dress or top with a little shine to feel extra special. What is your favorite date night look? This dress is one of my faves.

7 Shiny Pieces for Date Night:

Anytime you and your hubby are able to get away from the kids, you know it’s going to be great. But when you add in top service, luxury accommodations, and star treatment, you start to wonder if maybe you don’t need to go home? Staying at 1Hotels in Miami was that for us. From start to finish, we were greeted with great service, enthusiastic staff, and non-stop lobby treats. Lobby treats! It should be A Thing, everywhere. Did we mention our toughest decision was which pool to use? Our room was spacious, a gorgeous white, and had triple-filtered water and a dreamy shower.

And in the event that you mustered enough energy to leave the room or the pool, the hotel offered a (complimentary) driving service. After you took the required Selfie in the Tesla, you could shoot over to nearby restaurants like Oh Mehico (the guac!) and Whole Foods. There was also a spartan gym for those over-achievers who actually work out while on vacation, and a steam room for those who don’t. I spent some lovely minutes admiring both on my way to the pool.

A few tips to enhance your stay:

  1. Ask the locals where to eat.
  2. Walk if you can- you’ll get a great feel for the place
  3. No shame ordering chicken fingers and fries by the pool. Vacation mode means you let up and enjoy time talking about the kids, school, work and life.

I get asked often where I get my luxury items at a discount. To be honest, I scour the sites of used luxury items. Some are in new or near new condition and I pay a fraction of the retail price. Recently, I bought an Hermes belt at The Real Real and loved the product. Only regret was not buying a larger size. See below some of my luxury item picks. See how I styled my Hermès belt here and here.

I get asked a lot about my denim and denim cutoffs are no exception. When we first moved to LA, we took the family to the Silverlake farmer’s market. We got flowers, fruit and denim cutoffs. Definitely not on the list, but who doesn’t love an unexpected find?

1.Vintage LEVIS  I get mine at Silverlake Farmer’s Market, check your vendors at your local market, you never know what you’ll find!

2. AEO Denim x High Rise Shortie was the best fit and length overall and did I mention under $55? High-fives all around.

3. Topshop I sized up and overall the best high rise. These look the closest to the ones I found at the market.

4. Levis have these in black, and white.

5. Asos has cute ones, and these  and these are no exception.

6. One Teaspoon I like the Bandits and Le Wolves – which fit true to size.

Hats are great to make any outfit more casual. I’m loving baseball hats on bad hair days, like today, or just to make an outfit less formal. A real quick way to make an outfit look put together and chic is a baseball cap and topcoat. Underneath I have a simple turtleneck and jeans. When I’m out running around with my boys while the girls are at school, we usually have lots of errands to run and all I need are easy separates and a chic coat. See more casual chic HERE. And here are a couple topcoats I’m loving from around the web. Happy Tuesday!
