Sam & Libby Boot // Faux leather leggings // Jacket in small // Tee similar // Bag

Spent the day walking around Alys Beach taking note of all the beautiful gas lanterns and Christmas decor! I love this time of year. It is COLD out, so I added this black shearling jacket in size small to stay toasty on our walk to get coffee.

I added this $38 quilted travel bag that wipes clean and $30 boots that look way more expensive. Which is your favorite?

The mild temps are making a comeback here in the south.  I know it’s still taking a bit of time for the rest of the country, but don’t get impatient, the warmth is coming.  You will be out on your patio in no time.  With the spring season fast approaching, we decided to make some furniture upgrades to our pool deck.

We first moved some old outdoor pieces around.  We took our large teak table that seats 8 and moved it into the cabana, in front of our outdoor fire place.  While the evening is a bit of a chill, the fire place makes dinning al fresco romantic and comfortable.  We also added some new rockers to the pool deck.  Do you prefer lounge chairs or rockers?  While I love getting vitamin D in a lounge chair, it’s still a bit too early for that.  That’s why I love these rockers, they are comfortable and modern.  The grey cushions go well with our flagstone deck.  We placed the rockers on a new striped outdoor rug giving the chairs a nice smooth rock.  The rug will make a great place for the kids to lay down a beach towel as well, come summer.  Add planters and colorful spring plants around the space to add color and texture.  Walmart has an assortment of faux flowers.  Add faux flowers to oversized vases and if the temperature drops a few nights, no worries.  The faux flowers always look fresh!

While enjoying the new rockers, we decided to make homemade malts.  We rocked on our chairs and looked out at the pool while listening to the waterfall.  I love sitting outside, sipping my malt and reaping the benefits of sunlight and nature.  It’s time to get outdoors ready with Walmart’s Patio Furniture selections.  They have great pieces designed to fit a variety of styles and outdoor spaces.  Show me your plans.

Use this malt recipe for your first spring patio party.

Vanilla Malts

Makes 7 – 1 cup servings

1 ½ cups whole milk

1 1/8 cups granulated sugar

3 cups heavy whipping cream

1 ½ tablespoons pure vanilla extract

¼ cup malt powder (add more to taste)

In a medium mixing bowl, use a hand mixer on low speed to combine the milk and granulated sugar until the sugar is dissolved.  Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla.

Pour out the mixture into a freezer bowl.  We use this:

Ice cream maker – 2 quart

or

Kitchen Aid 2 quart Ice cream maker mixer attachment

I love how this area came together, from the planters, stripe pillows, outdoor rug, string lights and new rockers!

LED candles (AA and AAA battery powered) // Sherpa jacket // Black lanterns // Vacuum // Smart TV and mounting

We have a fun family tradition called gift exchange night.  It started with my family as a child.  As my siblings and I got married with kids our exchange night turned into quite the event.  We would all meet at Oakbrook Mall, near Chicago, draw names and give each other a gift limit.  As the years progressed, it got harder and harder to do the gift exchange at the mall.  Sticking to our price limit was a huge challenge.

We then moved away from my family and no longer could carry on the tradition with the extended family, but we started making it a night for our immediate family.  With young kids, we couldn’t do this at the mall so we moved the gift exchange to Walmart.  It is a perfect place for the gift exchange.  There is something for everyone.  Reid loves workout stuff, so Brooks found him a jump rope.  Brooks loves golf, so Mathias found him a new golf hat.  I love anything for the home and Levi bought me a cool star fish and shell for my console table.  Everything was $10 and under!

We have so much fun running around the store and finding something within the limit but also meaningful to that person.  We then rush home and without even wrapping anything, we sit in the living room and starting with the youngest, we exchange our gifts.  It’s a really sweet time.  You must see the video of Levi giving me my starfish.  His face was precious.

With the inspiration of the starfish, I expanded my home décor even more from Walmart.  I found LED “flame” candles and a couple black lanterns.  The LED candles really warm up the living room and dress up the space for both Christmas and throughout the year.  With the fun of decorating, I’m motivated to clean.  With the new beach house, we’ve been needing a new vacuum.  We found this one at Walmart and it has been perfect for our wood floors and soaking up all the sand.

As we love our gift exchange night and making memories, I hope you try this tradition for yourselves.  Check out Walmart and all the meaningful gifts you can find for every budget. I’m thankful our family gift giving will carry into life long lessons of thoughtfulness. We plan on doing this throughout the year to remind ourselves to think of others.

I’m overjoyed to show you more of the post renovation. It was been a dusty journey of endless paper plates, washing dishes in the basement and lots of patience in between.

I don’t love back to school frenzy but I secretly love all the prep and new gear! The kids share this joy with me. I bought the kids new Trapper Keepers, backpacks and jeans from Walmart. I had a blast from the past when I bought the Trapper Keepers home. I used to have one in junior high. Such good memories staying organized and “cool.” Now, my kids get to experience it.

See my picks below for starting off the year right:

Why I use Walmart+

We moved into a house with a pool at the end of February, and honestly, it’s been great! We find ourselves outside so much of the time because of it, and doesn’t every mom want that? Due to all this outside time, I’ve been branching out, trying to find different things to eat, play with, and do outside. And if the doing coincides with the eating, then all the better!  Enter the snow cone machine and syrups from Walmart! They absolutely love snow cones after our trip to Kauai two years ago, but I definitely didn’t like all the sugar and coloring usually found in snow cones. Surprisingly, the syrup I bought from Walmart doesn’t have the common red #40 or sugar. So far it’s been a huge hit, and is always a favorite at any party.

Also, to my friends with kids still in diapers, Walmart is a great go-to in a pinch! We were out of diapers this week and Walmart+ came to the rescue with a 2 hour delivery. Same with groceries and produce! Walmart+ always gives the option for same day delivery, and since “same day” are two of my favorite words, Walmart has quickly become a favorite. Don’t forget to sign up for Walmart+ HERE, free shipping, no order minimum.

For groceries:

Check your address to see if free delivery from your store is available at your address.($35 minimum. Restrictions apply.) I checked, and my address qualified, yay!

Non-grocery items:

As for everything else like this rad snow cone machine, enjoy free next day or 2-day delivery. Don’t forget to sign up for Walmart+ HERE, free shipping, no order minimum required (excludes freight & Marketplace items). Sign up and let me know what you think. If you’re on the fence, start a free 15 day trial to try it out!

Big thank you to Walmart for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

How to buy Father’s Day Gifts

Reid here.

To prevent the cliché of getting a new ugly tie every Father’s Day, I’ve provided some fatherly insight on Father’s Day gift buying.  Let me know if you have any questions.

What to get him?  Think about his hobbies.  Is it golf, fitness, hiking, or reading?  Whatever it may be, pick a category.  Let’s take golf for example.  The kids buy small gifts under $15 and Shalice typically buys the bigger gift.  For golf, don’t buy something like golf clubs, putters or golf shoes, if you don’t know specifics.  Avoid technical things primary to the hobby.  Instead buy gifts that support the hobby.  It lets him know you know him but also trust him to make those bigger purchases.  Therefore, I advise you buy gifts like golf tees, golf balls, a golf cleaning brush or even a golf hat.  These practical gifts support the hobby and are always appreciated during his next golf game.

The DON’T of Father’s Day Gift Giving

·      Do not buy him something that you desire him to be.

·      Do not buy something that requires assembly.

·      Do not buy something regarding career or self-improvement.

·      Do not get him something that is not his color.   For example, I look sickly in yellow.

·      Do not give him a gift card!  They add bulk to his wallet and or get lost in the trash.

The DO of Father’s Day Gift Giving

·      Do shower him with meaningful words of encouragement.  He needs it even if he doesn’t say it.

·      Do make cards instead of buying cards.  Take the money you would have spent on a pricey card and give him cash.

·      If overly spending money stresses your husband out like it does me…prove to him how you didn’t spend a lot on his gift by getting something thoughtful or will save you money of the lifetime of the product.  Like home gym equipment or DIY stuff.  Think of something that has a lot of bang for your buck.  I always appreciate that.

Of course, this applies if you want to surprise him.  If he gave you a list, I suggest you stick to the list or play it safe and pick from my Walmart selections.  Tip: there are lots of 2 day shipping options!
