Styling tips

How was your weekend? If I’m honest, I’m lying in bed under the weather after one of our busiest weekends yet since moving to LA. Lots of fun projects and our first beach day of 2017, so no regrets. If you’re in need of some style inspiration for the week, wear camouflage! Here, I styled it with neutral grays  and a neutral bag. As a styling rule of thumb, treat camouflage like leopard. Don’t wear it head to toe, and compliment it with neutrals. Viola, weekday casual at its best.

I’m sharing a couple styling tips I use myself. To be honest, it’s not everyday I feel 100% in an outfit. It takes lots of trial and error to get an outfit right for an event, occasion, or the blog. When I don’t feel like wearing anything but pajama pants, aka having an ‘off’ day, I use the following tips:

1. Nude heels elongate the leg, making you appear taller.

2. A Belt – Cinching the waist is the easiest way to creating shape.

3. Pointed Toe shoes and boots – believe it or not, a pointed toe boot, heel or flat also elongates the legs, making you appear taller and therefore slimmer.

4. Wear monotone colors – for example, wear a let’s say black turtleneck with a black pencil skirt underneath a cozy shearling coat or colorful blazer. Instant slimming! No protein shakes, 35 min stair steps, or exhausting cardio required. Sound convincing?

THIS designer was onto something, chevron is an incredibly flattering shape. See my  top chevron picks here.

Marc Jacobs once relayed, “To me, clothing is a form of self-expression, there are hints of who you are in what you wear.” I tend to agree. For me, what I put on or style for someone else, is always an expression of creativity and artistry. Thank God for this outlet!

Have you ever wondered what to do with all those off the shoulder dresses and blouses you’ve accumulated? I’m obviously a huge fan if you follow me on Instagram, but a bigger fan of some alternate styling tips such as pairing it with a military green vest. Viola! A super easy look that works with a little game of basketball on the deck with my 5 year old, (minus the heel, thanks grandma for the mini hoop!) and planning father’s day weekend. Now I ask you, what do you want your clothes to say about you?

If you’re looking for that one-of-a-kind vintage Chanel, look no further than Rice and Beans Vintage. What I love about this Chanel backpack, besides the fact that it is Chanel and gorgeous, is that it is hand’s free. I can carry my essentials and still have hands available for my little ones who invariably come with all those spills and hugs. A great thing to keep in mind about feature pieces …  always pair your feature piece–for me it’s my jacket with all its intricate lace–with a subdued color like black so as to keep it chic and not too loud. For instance, if this jacket was white, I would wear white jeans. It’s all about balance. And in order to let the jacket and Chanel shine, I chose my go-to nude sandals because that’s all I really needed for date night. Well, maybe a margarita or two but I wouldn’t limit that to just date night. Follow Rice and Beans Vintage on Instagram to see vintage Chanel as it arrives!
