We were off to visit my aunt and didn’t plan to stop by this cute little street in Laguna Beach, but the road down was too inviting to miss. The kids wanted to stretch their legs after an hour drive from LA, and this little cove was the perfect rest stop. Never mind the fact that we parked illegally, at least it was for a short time to take in the views.

I got so many questions about this top I posted on Instagram, I thought I’d give you a couple selections below. I’m always surprised how much bang for the buck a red off the shoulder top is. It looks great with blue and white denim and even a fresh out of the shower wet braid.

Last week, we visited the Pasadena Library and it was simply stunning. We didn’t have long to explore, but we were able to peruse the wood paneled reading rooms, awesome kid space, and old fireplaces, so much charm. I can’t wait to take Reid back there! Also, the outdoor espresso bar is a cute little destination that’s quiet and somewhat private. Definitely worth a visit. Here are 4 more places worth a visit in LA:

One of the fun things about moving from LA from Chicago is everything is new and we are always discovering something new here in LA! We like to support small businesses, so it was fun to stumble upon some unique cafés that make LA so unique. Just don’t forget to bring your laptop, a magazine and order a double espresso. A good café is worth savoring.

How to Style Dark Jeans

When asked how best to style dark jeans, I opt for whites and neutrals. Specifically a white off the shoulder top, (I prefer arm inserts for a good fit), clear or neutral bag, and wrap neutral heels. In my personal opinion, everyone needs a chill, off-the-shoulder dress that works for both errands (in gladiator sandals) and date night (with a wedge). Sometimes one needs practical and efficient, as well as fashionable. I’ve been budgeting my time by shooting looks once a week, writing copy when Reid is home and posting daily here at the blog. “One is never overdressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress,” said the one and only Karl Lagerfeld. I think the same goes for the red dress. That pop of color not only always looks great, but it is invigorating to wear. Think of it as the modern power suit, suitable with a wrap heel or black gladiator sandals. And the great Anna Wintour reminds us that “If you can’t be better than your competition, just dress better.” For me, it’s just a great date night dress that involves little thinking and huge results. Now, talk about invigorating.

Marc Jacobs once relayed, “To me, clothing is a form of self-expression, there are hints of who you are in what you wear.” I tend to agree. For me, what I put on or style for someone else, is always an expression of creativity and artistry. Thank God for this outlet!

Have you ever wondered what to do with all those off the shoulder dresses and blouses you’ve accumulated? I’m obviously a huge fan if you follow me on Instagram, but a bigger fan of some alternate styling tips such as pairing it with a military green vest. Viola! A super easy look that works with a little game of basketball on the deck with my 5 year old, (minus the heel, thanks grandma for the mini hoop!) and planning father’s day weekend. Madewell Folklore vibes

We’re back in LA and school is out. While I have mixed feelings about having all four kids at home, I have to say I’m excited to explore more of the LA area, namely the hills, the zoo, Venice Beach, and Lacy Park for picnics. And to those of you who ask how I keep my white jeans white? I never put them in the dryer. Instead, I leave them on the dry rack and the sun does my bleaching. Cheers to lots of exploring, summertime, and malbec on the porch. Have a great week!
