Hope you have a wonderful weekend! We’re going to our friend’s pool and grilling out. What are you up to?

My shop page is open 24/7.

Confession: my jeans are tight. I’ve been living in joggers and pj’s till 12 noon. Or later. However, I have started, by day 25 of quarantine, to get dressed, make my bed, and get some blog posts on here! I’m not a dietician, or doctor, but I have included some of my personal tips for avoiding gaining weight during this time at home.

DRINK LOTS OF H20

We need to train ourselves to drink water. We go through our days drinking coffee, smoothies, more coffee, and then we wonder why we have an afternoon headache. We are dehydrated! Here’s a tip: Drink 3 glasses of water before 12 noon. This helps a lot. You should drink a total of 8 glasses a day, and if that feels like too much, lemon water helps. Also, when I get a hankering for a peanut butter cup (more on this later) I make a (calorie-free) lemonade.

Calorie Free Lemonade

8 oz filtered water

1 lemon, squeezed

1 full dropper of stevia

5 cubes of ice

Mix all ingredients and enjoy!

Add Fab4 smoothie to your breakfast routine

I feel more fueled and focused when I have my Fab4 smoothie, originally published HERE.

#FAB4Smoothie: Protein (20g minimum) + Fiber (10g minimum) + 1 Tbsp. Fat + Handful Greens + 1/4 Cup Fruit + Superfoods + Liquid

2 scoops Vital Proteins collagen powder // 1 TB almond butter// 1 frozen banana // 1 cup frozen pineapple // 2 cups frozen organic spinach // 1 TB chia seeds // unsweetened almond milk // 2 meyer lemons (add at the end) //

Directions: blend till smooth in a vitamix or blender. I add the lemons at the end and drink immediately.

I explain more in this post about how I am changing the way our family eats.

Add a pilates ring to your routine

I place it in between my thighs while I sit for a thigh workout. Try doing it 100x!

Drink ACV

Add 2 tablespoons to water and ice and drink before a meal. Reid and I have one after dinner. Whenever it makes sense, just add this to your regimen.

I’m not sure if you’re aware, but Nordstrom is having a HUGE sale. I rounded up some favorites including my shoes on sale!

SkinCeuticals take 15% off!

As always, my shop page is open 24/7, ask any questions and let me know how you are staying fit and healthy during these times. What are your plans this weekend? Reid and I will take the kids to our friends’ pool to swim. Don’t worry, we will still be practicing social distancing. And thanks to the high temps, we will try our hand at margaritas! Will let you know how they go!

Since Covid-19 is our new reality and staying home is the best thing to do right now, I thought I’d share my 6 Tips to keeping my sanity during the quarantine below. I love reading others contributions so here are mine:

1. Keep a routine and write it down. Whether they be big or small, write down a few goals each day. I think the key is to keep doing something you love, whether it’s drinking coffee on the porch, finally starting one of those books from the towering stack by your nightstand, reading on the couch with the kids, taking a hot bath with candles, or just taking a walk to enjoy the fresh air, keep doing it.

2. Stay in, stay cozy. Invest in a good cozy outfit if you don’t have one. I like this top and just added these grey joggers to cart.

3. Put on lipstick. Sounds trivial but wow a good nude, peach or red lip can lift the mood.

4. Break out those beauty tools and face masks. Whether it be the fix, trinity, or tri-light, now, is the time ladies.Ā

5. Games and Hide N Seek Oh My! So many ask, how do we keep our kids busy at home for so many hours? Board games like LIFE or Scrabble, stickers, puzzles, a play tent, and drawing books are great non-screen activities. I started a point system at home so if the kids do a chore or find a hidden coin in the house, they can pick a snack from the prize box. Don’t miss the fact that even the LEGO’s are on sale at Nordstrom. See our favorite popcorn seasoning recipe below!

NACHO SEASONING POPCORN RECIPE:

1/2 cup coconut oil

1/2 cup white popcorn

1/4 cup Bragg nutritional yeast

1 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon ground paprika

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon chili powder

1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

1/8 teaspoon ground Cayenne pepper

Combine the yeast, salt and spices in a small bowl. Drizzle spices and coconut or avocado oil over hot popcorn. Enjoy!

6.Ā Start a “spark joy list”Ā What are things that typically bring you joy? For me, it is long hot baths, online shopping (no joke), styling outfits, moving furniture around, tidying up (anybody with me??), long walks around the neighborhood and sweet potato fries! Sounds like a random list, but I encourage you to grab a journal and write some of those things down, and then try and do them!

For those of you who also love to online shop and are finding it remarkably easy during this quarantine time, one of my favorite places to shop for the kids clothes is Nordstrom! Their customer service is awesome, no joke. I often order two sizes if my kids are in between sizes. I keep one and return the other to ensure a good fit. Shopping at Nordstrom is SO EASY and they just reduced (almost everything) 25%. Gasp! Free shipping, free returns and free curbside pick up. What more could you ask for?

I also am loving Teva’s for the kids! They’re washable, grow with the kids, and are both comfy and breathable. The girls both fought over this flutter top and gauzy dress. How cute are they?? The boys’ outfits are quality and traditional. I like to chose designs that can work for church, a playdate, or a cozy game of Scrabble. Versatility is key!

Which look is your favorite?

So instead of being late every year for Christmas cards and gifts, I am trying something new this year and DOING IT ALL EARLY. Holiday cards have been sent, with the exception of only a couple, and gifts have been ordered (just not wrapped). Most of you know I’m working on a secret project and spending time on last minute gifts is just out of the question. Nordstrom made it easy this year to get holiday gifts. I was able to get Reid some much needed skin care in an affordable gift set, my friend some facial sprays I’ve been telling her about, and myself, some makeup! I only use Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow and this case was too pretty to pass up. Below are some of my reoccurring purchases on Nordstrom online and why. Have you tried any of them? Let me know in the comments!

Supergoop self tanning: two years ago, I forgot my self tanning towels on a business trip to Dallas, and a friend recommended this lotion. That weekend, I got a ton of compliments on my tan!! I ended up buying another bottle and the rest is history.

Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen: I use this as a makeup primer. Goes on almost weightless and works well with my concealer and foundation I apply over this primer. Hello sunscreen you can feel, smell, or see, and protects you from dangerous rays all day.

Mario Badescu Facial Sprays This gift set is so good! (you’re basically getting one for free!) This is a great makeup setting spray or afternoon pick me up. It smells so amazing that I packed the lavender spray in my hospital bag when I had Levi. It’s so refreshing!

Jack Black Travel set: Reid hasn’t used a ton of skincare because he doesn’t need it. I sometimes get jealous of men and their good skin and they barely take care of it. This is gentle on his skin and he said he liked the moisturizer a lot.

Kiehls Hydration Essentials set: gentle on the skin and works for my tween! Honestly, this set caught my eye because I LOVE their lip balm. And I’m familiar with their creme de corps lotion. It is very dry here in LA, and I’m always misplacing lotions. My hands are dry from mom life, long nights on my laptop, etc, so this creme is a lifesaver. No guarantees I won’t loose this one too, lol.

Nuface Trinity (20% off!) If I want a good lift before a shoot, I use the trinity on my face. I love the results and moisturizing gel (with anti-aging hyaluronic acid)!

Altera Caviar Shampoo and Conditioner: My hair stylist recommended I use this duo on my color treated hair and I must admit, I like the results. My hair feels full and healthy. I don’t think I could ever go back to drugstore shampoo. Plus, did I mention it smells amazing?

Charlotte Tilbury Eye Shadow: So many good shades I found similar to the Naked palate but with more shine for the holidays and a limited edition Swaroski crystal case that is stunning! The best thing about this palette is that it compliments every skin tone.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm OMG. Have you tried this? I bought a sample off an Instagram ad, for $5. I’ll admit, I squeezed every last bit of balm out of that travel size. And may have cried a little when it was done. It smells like a botanical garden, luscious essential oils, and goes on like butter. It melts all your makeup off from the day, and after rinsing off, I feel like a new woman. I’m not frivolous, but this stuff is WORTH.EVERY.PENNY. I wish it could clean my room as well as it cleans my face.

Charlotte Tilbury bronzer and Highlighter I was introduced to this from my make-up artist Morgan. She uses the bronzer on my cheeks, and highlighter for my cheekbones for an evening glam. The queen of Hollywood glow, Charlotte makes a mean highlighter few can rival. Also, fits great in a stocking. Your stocking šŸ˜‰

You probably already know this but, Nordstrom is your destination for ALL things beauty! Don’t forget on cyber Monday (December 2), head to Nordstrom to check out the gifts with purchase and can’t be beat deals. Which are your favorite?

Thank you Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!

Chanel perfume // Givenchy Healthy Glow Powder in “Extreme” // Givenchy Brush Eyeliner in “vinyl black” // Cable Knit Sweater // Jeans // Fendi Bag // Levi’s onesie // Make-up brushes

If you’re a mom like me with a newly minted 1 year old, putting on makeup just isn’t what it used to be. I put mascara on one-handed, curling my lashes is also done one-handed, and my new bronzer has already been dropped and cracked. Sad face.

Alas, it is just not the same as it used to be. But might I add it has never been this fun? Levi brings a whole new level of joy to the mundane. And with that includes his wonder and excitement over my makeup brushes, chewing on my Givenchy eye pencil, allowing me to brush his cheeks as he hurls in giggles and belly laughs. Definitely not boring.

Now, the super mom skills come in when baby is on the hip, and you’re actually able to apply some makeup, and not look like Count Dracula. Didn’t I say skills? All that to say, my makeup and beauty routine has been abridged over the years. These items have been favorites as of late:

Givenchy Bronzer – Love this bronzer so much because it goes on very light. I try not to have too heavy of a hand when it comes to bronzer, so if you like it to be there but not like, REALLY there, this is a great option for you. The color is also really great and would go well with a lot of different skin tones in my opinion. Pro tip: Apply on your cheekbones, forehead and jawbone for that I-just got-back-from-St-Tropez look.

Givenchy Eyeliner – Levi loves to play with this, but so does mommy! I would definitely recommend this pencil if you’re needingĀ some precision. It would be great for someone who likes to line the waterline or rock a super sleek cat eye.

Chanel perfume – This perfume smells amazing! It is more musky than flowery, which is my ideal perfume. I’m not a fan of anything with either a vanilla scent or too much of a floral scent. Pro tip: spray some in your hair before a night out. So glam!

Have you tried any of these? I’d love to hear.

My Top 5 Ways to Becoming More Sustainable

What does sustainable even mean? This is a question I found myself thinking about a lot recently, which is why I decided to look more into it and educate myself and my family. What I found out is sustainable actually means minimizing non-renewable energy consumption and using as many recycled products as possible. This is something I want to make sure we’re doing in our home and something I feel like we should be talking about more. So, this is how our family is being more sustainable. Hopefully these things can act as some ideas for your family too!

1. We eat local

Eating local means we are supporting small businesses and that we are using fewer fossil fuels for the food to get to us. It’s a small step, but when you think about how many times you eat out, it’s one of those little things that adds up.

2. Recyclable sandwich bags

When I started thinking about how many plastic bags a week we were going through for leftovers, lunches, snacks, etc. it kind of made me sick. Especially after learning that plastic takes hundreds of years to decompose. So, we started using reusable sandwich bags, which has cut down a lot of our waste on a weekly basis.

3. Buying used

When you love a good handbag or designer shoes as much as me, buying used can make a big difference. I’ve been buying used luxury items at places like eBay, Poshmark, and The Real Real for years!

4. Recycle

We recycle plastics and paper and I’m proud of seeing the kids follow suit on the recycling habit. It’s important to teach them to do this now so they can make the same smart choices as they get older.

5. Donate

Not only do I try to buy used when it comes to luxury items, but I want our old clothes and shoes to be reused as well. As a family, we donate via Crossroads and the Salvation Army. With 7 people, you can imagine that there are a lot of shoes and clothes that can go to well deserving new homes.
Now, it’s your turn! How are you practicing sustainability?

After all, I believe the mantra, FEWER, BETTER THINGS.
