The verse on my fridge currently reads:

Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
    you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.

Psalm 16:5-6

It has been a constant reminder to rejoice in the good and bad that this year has brought.

After having a serious poison ivy reaction and my whole face blew up to twice its size (yes, I was like something out of a movie), the nerve in my tooth dying, which caused extreme nerve pain, my IG account was suspended due to a glitch, and we moved ourselves. Yes, you read that right! After the movers we hired in Atlanta, GA, left after an hour complaining that it was “TOO HOT,” me, Reid and the kids packed up a semi-truck and a half bound for sunny California. Even Levi helped! We were wiped.

Later, I found out that I bulged the disc in my back from that move but didn’t feel the full affects until two months later. Moving right along, I found a lump in my breast so I’l be getting an MRI, and endured throbbing back pain from sciatica nerves, all that to say, it’s BEEN A YEAR.

Have you had a similar year?

The verse reads:

Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
    you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.

I’m not writing you to complain but rather highlight the fact that pain is God’s microphone. In the dark days of pain and trying to find relief, I found myself closest to my heavenly Father.

Can you relate to a dark time of pain, loss or sadness?

We are where we want to be, settled in the west coast, however renting. We are grateful God graciously brought us back despite the competitive housing market and many details surrounding moving seven people cross country. Reid and I still have the itch to renovate and pine after the killer views in our old house in Pasadena. However, SOOOOO happy to be back in Cali, working.

God is good, how about you, how has your year been?

The MOST requested topic has been DIET. While, I’m no expert, or dietician, Here’s what on my plate on an average day. I try and limit sugar and bread in my diet, although I believe in cheat days! Here’s a normal day minus birthday parties and taco Tuesday! Also, some key athletic apparel can not only motivate you to work out, but up your casual game. I show some of my favorites below. Don’t forget, a trench, a camel coat, and fun sneakers finish the look. So, without further adieu, here’s my everyday diet:

B : Pumpkin seed granola and almond milk (I buy the variety that is less than 7 grams of sugar) almond milk latte and a green smoothie consisting of kale, sometimes beet, frozen banana, frozen pineapple, coconut water, and chia seeds) * This combo changes daily to keep it interesting

L : Big kale salad, a couple cups of kale, sliced turkey, black olives, feta cheese, and homemade dressing:

1/3 cup grapeseed oil, 3T balsamic vinegar, 3 T sugar, 1 t salt, 1 t crushed garlic,

D : Chicken and Rice – We have a family joke about how often we eat this combo, but you cannot deny how versatile and healthy it is. My kids are always asking, are we having chicken and rice again? I have a million varieties including a soup version. So good!

Snacks: Raw almonds (good protein and packed with wrinkle fighting vitamin E), avocados (antioxidents and tons of good fat), oranges or grapefruit (a great snack to boost vitamin C, and builds collagen, hello younger skin!)

+Keep drinking lots of water, green and dandelion tea in between meals will give you energy.

I also refer to this topic in a later post HERE on the blog.

Comment with any additional questions, comments and your favorite smoothie recipe! Here’s to a healthy 2017!

Our family weekend was full of energy, and started with brunch at Dinette. So much yum and lots of people watching! The kids enjoyed the croissants while we went for the avocado toast, which was no sacrifice let me tell you. You almost can’t believe it’s good for you. We love avocado toast so much that I compiled my top faves in LA below. Am I missing one? Let me know! And, if you’re curious, see our top coffee shops in LA here.

Top 4 places to get avocado toast:

Ledlow (So many good layers and a little kick. Not to mention the whole place is insta-worthy)

Winsome (I loved the creaminess. So good and super kid-friendly. It always makes my list.)

Gracias Madre (Oh my goodness. You will be asking for a double order. Don’t forget the guac. This place is also insta-worthy)

Dinette 1608 Sunset Blvd. Great people watching, kid and dog-friendly, and great avocado toast. Go early.
