Mother’s Day Gifts

As Mother’s Day rolls around, Reid invariably asks me what I want at some point. I usually ask for a massage or homemade cards. This year I asked for some jewelry like the kind my mother used to wear, lots of pearls in the form of elegant rings and earrings. LAGOS Jewelry has been a favorite for a while now, for both their quality and assortment of jewelry. I don’t like bulky jewelry or lots of hearts, so when I saw these dainty, detailed, and studded pieces, I fell in love. I don’t know what I love more, the rings, the bracelet, or the necklace? All of them? I hope to pass my jewelry to my daughters just like my mom passed some of hers to me. LAGOS Jewelry has that timelessness that I look for when scouting out jewelry, and I’m always thrilled when I add one of their pieces to my collection.
This Mother’s Day I’m so grateful for my Mom who put up with my teenage attitude and awkward stages, and continues to be selfless in serving her kids and grandkids. Isn’t motherhood the most beautiful adventure? I think it is. And the weird thing is, I really will miss these days of floors cluttered with annoying blocks or hundreds of frozen peas, constant bickering but also constant hugs and kisses. Happy almost Mother’s Day to the moms, the grandmothers, and those who wish to be mothers. We appreciate you!

  5. Turquoise Ring

I often get asked where some of my more affordable jewelry is from. I wear everything from investment pieces to under $100 jewelry. More specifically, I get asked often where my turquoise ring is from that I wear on my left hand index finger. It was a gift from my granny. I treasure it as a piece of my heritage and legacy of strong women. Since I started blogging, this ring set me apart and is probably one of my most asked questions, besides, what’s your workout routine. I love a good turquoise ring! See below some of my favorites including a turquoise ring with a similar gold setting, easy hoops and versatile stud earrings under $50. Which are your favorite?

I get asked SO many times where my special necklaces are from, so I thought I’d line them up for you.

The round one with the hidden crystal is from Adornmonde, the round circle and “mama” sign is from Tiny Tags. and Finally the letters to my kids initials is from Maya Brenner.

I love having a part of my kids around my neck to always remember them. No matter if we are apart. And my kids love seeing their names on my necklaces. After I had Levi, I sent in my letter necklace to Maya Brenner and they added an “L,” how cool is that?

These make great baby shower, mother’s day or Christmas gifts. Speaking of, Christmas is 58 days away . . .

When the Apple Watch came out, I thought, wow that’s cool, but why is the strap so ugly? So, I searched and didn’t find much of a solution other than a sporty version. Enter the Lagos Smart Caviar Watch Bracelet. First of all, it looks like a bracelet! The sterling silver band and double clasp makes it stunning and sturdy. How pretty is it styled with a stack of gorgeous Lagos bracelets? Have you seen their snake ring? Obsessed. I digress. There are a couple reasons I justify this somewhat hefty purchase:

1. The cost per wear is amazing. If I wear this watch 350 days of the year, each day costs $2.71 to wear it. Much less than your overpriced caffeine addiction.

2. This is the prettiest Apple watch strap I have ever seen. I’ve yet to see competition that lines up to this caliber. I can wear this to a meeting, out to dinner and off to soccer practice the next day. While it is sterling silver fine jewelry, it still goes with what I’m wearing. From blazers and suits to shorts and a t-shirt, the Lagos Smart Caviar goes with everything! The Lagos tagline, “My Lagos, my way” means that you can mix and match styles and stack your jewelry in any way to create your own unique look. The best news? There is no wrong way to wear your Lagos.

3. Perfect marriage of beauty and function. It is not only beautiful sterling silver, but it has an adjustable strap that perfectly holds up to the wear and tear of my busy life as a mom of 5.

If you’re hesitant, don’t take my word for it, just try it on and you’ll love the look! I love it layered as shown here. Layering your jewelry has been “in” for a while, and here I’m wearing my favorite drop earrings and bracelets to compliment the watch bracelet. Christmas is 98 days away, and this Lagos Smart Caviar Watch Bracelet. is THE perfect Christmas or birthday gift!

My longtime followers know I LOVE turquoise. When I saw these turquoise pieces from Lagos, I couldn’t wait to style them with an all white ensemble. The turquoise is set in a sterling silver caviar beading. The latter of which is Lagos signature beading detail. The ring stone for example, measures 13mm, and quite the statement! How would you style yours? See more here.

Hope you all had a great 4th!

When you are asked to host an event in Chicago with Tiffany & Co. and Coveteur, you do not hesitate. Plus it gave me an excuse to catch up on all the Lou Malnati’s pizza, my best friend, my family, etc, etc. I brought my four year-old who spent most of my 5 days in Chicago catching up with cousins over Lego’s and my sister’s yummy cooking. While he was catching up with family, I was able to connect with Chicago blogger friends I have missed since moving to LA. Tiffany gave me a great excuse to go back home, host an event on a rooftop, talk with guests from all over the country, enjoy eats and sips and try on the new Tiffany Hardware collection. SWOON. It is so lovely and edgy – the pieces all went with what I was wearing, my favorite being the rings. I was so thankful for the friends and family who came out to support me and the collection. If you were there and reading this, THANK YOU! It brought a smile to my face to meet people who said they follow me and came out to see the collection. All in all a lovely stay and I’ll have to admit, I’m missing that room service.

My Portuguese Granny was a lady with impeccable style and amazing taste in jewelry. My gold and turquoise ring that has become my signature piece was hers. After “borrowing” the ring in my teenage years, my mom gave me the ring when I started college; I have seldom taken it off since.  It goes with everything and I can’t tell you how many times I’m asked, “Where can I get that ring?” The ring of course is 70+ years old, and who knows where my Granny got it. She was Portuguese, but lived in Hong Kong and traveled extensively. So of course I’m always on the look out for something similar in design and character.

Then I saw a Jane Pope piece at a Shopburu party during NYFW. I saw somebody wearing a turquoise ring that caught my eye. After meeting her and seeing more of her designs, it was obvious why her designs are carried at Barney’s New York and featured in Elle and Glamour Magazine. Jane creates custom pieces, but also has a line of gorgeous pieces ready-made. And she carries this exact turquoise ring I’m wearing. I love her quality pieces and I’m so excited to share them with you! Read more about her story here.

Thank you Jane Pope Jewelry for partnering on this post!
