If you buy anything this week in October, make sure it’s velvet. It’s the hottest material and worn best with basics you already have in your closet: a white dress, or denim on denim. See my previous post on affordable frayed jeans. I love that the heel is low enough so I can run to school pick-up when I’m late. True story. If one has to be late, at least arrive in velvet, yes? High fives all around for sporting fall’s hottest trend a little under the $50 mark, leaving some wiggle room to go crazy Halloween costumes. More of that coming soon.

The really great thing about colder weather is all that lovely layering you get to do. And seeing as I’ve accumulated quite a few lovely scarves, shawls and kimonos, I have some great layering pieces. My very favorite trick to accessorizing a cold shoulder or off-the-shoulder dress or top is a scarf or shawl. If I were to name one, this lace and fringe number works every time. It provides a whimsical flair to an evening out, whether that be a quick stop for boba tea or dinner at Gjelina. Wherever you end up, you’ll feel chic and sophisticated. Quite honestly, this off-the-shoulder/shawl situation may become my fall go-to … it’s that good.

10 years ago this week, we got engaged. Here’s our story . . .

We had been dating for about 6 months when my family took a trip to Southern France to stay in a cousin’s chateau.  Although Reid and I had a rough journey there, with cancelled flights and unexpected layovers, we made it.  Vineyards and lavender fields dotted the countryside and the charm was undeniable. We picked fruit, perused french markets, and did all the things you think people do in Southern France. I had no idea that Reid was going to propose, but after a dinner date one evening we returned to the field behind the chateau where music  from Pride and Prejudice came floating out from under the canopy of the willow tree. Stepping through the hanging curtain of leaves, there was a gorgeous table spread with desserts, flowers, and candlelight … and an uninvited yellow lab, no joke. It was breathtaking, and obviously, I said yes. We’ve had some great years and some rough years, with 4 children pretty close together (hello, Irish twins), countless diapers, too many moves to count, and 7 architecture exams. He was and still is my best friend and I hope and pray our children have a similar story if not one to best it! And if I could tell my 20 year-old self some advice? It would be to worry less and take risks. God is good.

Sunday Family Brunch2016_08_20_shalicenoel12-767-edit

I’m having a major Tuesday Shoesday moment and I’m honored to share 7 DAYS, 7 LOOKS with Vince Camuto. I love how a boot or pump can take me from a creative meeting to date night with the hubby to school pick up. It was a fun challenge to pair 7 pairs of beautiful boots and pumps with easy (and wearable) pieces you may already have in your closet. That coveted laissez-faire look sometimes means a ruffle instead of a tee, a lace shawl over a tank, and lace-up leather boots for good measure. Thankfully, for you, I took the guessing out of what to wear, and linked all 7 outfits below. Now, it’s your turn, which look is your favorite?

Nothing says rule breaker quite like white-on-white after labor day. The monochrome look is surprisingly flattering and makes your accessories pop. And how cute is this lace up tied sweater? I’m obsessed.

What goes with everything and is a must-have for fall? Why, comfy black booties of course! These “Trinculo” Børn boots are not only comfortable (as in gel-cushion-comfy) but they look awesome with a sweater and cropped jeans. And as I transition to fall, I plan to wear them with bare legs for as long as the weather affords. A definite bonus is that I can get them on in 5 seconds when I’m running late to school drop-off. Winning.

I’m all about the simple #ootd. Let’s be honest, I struggle everyday to get four children out of the house for school, so I’ve been finding myself gravitating toward the simplest of pieces. Here, a shirtdress, faux leather leggings, and and edgy nude heels take center stage. It also happens to be just as appropriate for meetings as it is for date night. For the latter, I would add a suede jacket and lace up boot . After all, basics can very well be classics when paired well. As for the smiles from my little guy, I’d like to thank the dried mango and lollipops, not shown.

Maybe I liked it better than the hustle of Manhattan? One thing is true, whether I’m hustling in Manhattan or lounging in Brooklyn, I love a fresh take on stripe a la cold shoulder. The latter of which I will be wearing all fall. Happy Humpday!

I’ll admit I have a leopard problem right now. I’ve got leopard coming out of my ears in the form of pretty pointed flats, sexy coats and pencil skirts. However, the moment you touch this soft coat, you’ll find a similar obsession at hand. I cannot wait to dress it down with cropped denim and a thin sweater. Maybe even these boots? After all, I’m pretty sure leopard’s a neutral.

After a ruffle-white-clad summer, I’m all about donning the leopard and parading the bell sleeves. And did I mention, both pieces are under $50? Fall has me craving leopard styled with some of my favorite black pieces: black pumps and a classic mock neck. Furthermore, treat leopard like Kool-Aid – add lots of water (aka solid colors) if you want to play it down Jackie O. style. I prefer all black, denim or white! Last week, I had the privilege in between shows and meetings, a stop at the landmark Grand Central Station. It was a first for me and so iconic! The giant windows, the chandeliers and overall stunning room was breathtaking. One of the many reasons I love charming New York city, despite the humidity that killed my hair. True story.
