One of the many reasons I was so excited about leaving the Midwest was a warm October. I mean, Elsa and Anna can actually walk down the street without a full parka and knit hat? Mind-blowing. So to celebrate this inaugural year of Costumes without Coats, the girls and I decided on Batman’s right hand girl: Cat Woman. We had soooo much fun getting dressed and it wasn’t long until the kids were begging to go outside to show off their costumes and demanding pictures (no, you read it right. They wanted pics!). I’ll admit, I’m the mom who is AWFUL at costumes – to the tune of using the couch blanket as a cape. Yup, mom fail. This year, I did away with my old ways. Despite ordering multiple Cat Women costumes, the totally corny headband, and the slightly loose boys’ costumes, ol’ Amazon totally pulled through for me. They, and I really do mean “I”, were a complete success. Let the 88 degree Cali October-trick-or -treating begin!

Did you know you can customize your running shoes from Nike? And is that exciting or terrifying? Well to be honest, I was terribly hesitant at first. With all the available colors and options, what if I made an ugly shoe? That’s a real fear, people! I really had to play around with a couple different styles before I settled on the NIKE ROSHE. But as you can imagine, I really got into it! A tip for those who are willing to try it–and I highly recommend trying it–do take multiple pictures of what you designed. I snapped different pictures of different colored soles and laces and then viewed inspiration in magazines and online stores. If you go with what you like and keep it simple, you’ll end up wearing them not only with your yoga pants but with your leather leggings! Practically speaking, I went with more neutral colors and stayed away from the neons. But that was my Tuesday choice. Who knows what would have happened on Wednesday? As for the two words you get to put behind the shoes, aka ‘the boss’ message, have fun! It was priceless seeing my husband’s eye-roll when he first saw my message. Who knew running shoes were so much fun?

Truth be told, I usually shy away from pink. Even my six year-old doesn’t want her classmates to know if she owns any pink for fear she’ll loose her edge. Whatever her reason, mine doesn’t seem far off. I gravitate to the black ensemble and accessories, hence my Sole Society choices, but I’ll admit I love them styled with a pop of pink. Far from detracting, I have found that pink only enhances the edgy look. Shop my look below, which are all exact pieces, or they’re on my shop page. Happy Thursday!

shalice-30shalice-74shalice-69img_3563 shalice-19After 25 year of experience, San Francisco based designer Margaret O’Leary may make the softest, most cutting-edge sweaters around. One of my favorite outfits has to be a sweater (that’s not itchy but incredibly soft) worn with cutoffs. Seriously, right up there with picking apples, drinking hot apple cider, and breathing in the crisp fall air are CHUNKY KNIT SWEATERS, especially if they are made with cashmere. I think everybody can agree that everybody needs a little cashmere in their lives. In fact, these sweaters are the perfect hint to drop for birthdays or Christmas … or skip the hints and call it shopping therapy.

Our underwear often doesn’t take the front seat in fashion, but as we all know, there is nothing quite like a good bra. Or let me say it this way: we often forget about the comfortable bra (or undies), but remember distinctly when one doesn’t fit right. So in this third installment of the series I’m doing with Hanes, I thought it only appropriate to share how my Hanes’ ComfortFlex Fit bras without wires and the Hanes Cool Comfort Cotton Bikinis let me focus on the rest of life, specifically transitioning to fall. #becomfydent.

4 Tips to Best Transition to Fall:

  1. Get the palette right: jeans, a trusty chunky knit, button up, turtleneck, etc. When you have the right basics, it’s all about mixing, matching and the right accessories.
  2. Stretch out summer by adding tights (Hanes are my favorite!) to summer dresses and sandals with fall favorites.
  3. Keep wearing SPF! UVA Rays are as strong in January as they are in July. Use proper coverage to avoid fine lines and aging. Yikes!
  4. Start afresh. I get all new undergarments every couple of months or so. At the moment I’m loving the Hanes Cool Comfort Bikini with its light material and comfy cut. I also like the Hanes ComfortFlex Fit bra; it works great with sweaters for that “off-duty” look.

With fall just around the corner be prepared with the right basics, an edited but functional closetprotected skin, and the right undergarments. Share how you best transition to fall by using the hashtag #becomfydent.

As a heads up, I’m partnering with Hanes for a couple months sharing how I, as a busy mom, wear comfy undergarments that keep me feeling confident. Read more at www.Hanes.com. Thank you Hanes for partnering on this post!

If you’re in search of one fall must have, it’s a suede jacket! This one has the perfect dark camel hue and a great fitting cut (I recommend sizing up). I love it paired with these sailor shorts from EXPRESS. And don’t forget booties or block heels. This outfit is the perfect transition outfit for those in the warmer climates experiencing an Indian summer but need a cozy covering for evenings.

shalice-174

shalice-168I also plan on wearing this suede jacket with a knit turtleneck sweater for our next trip to Big Bear. It’s so funny how excited us Chicagoans are to travel to the cold regions of California. The kids keep asking when we can see snow. I distinctly remember thinking bad thoughts about the minus nineteen-degree winter that came every winter in Chicago … and yet. (Read our full story HERE.) Fall chill is all about excitement and refreshing the wardrobe accordingly. I also linked (and pinned!) some EXPRESS favorites. Which are your favorite?

Happy Fall!

Since moving to CA, we have become avid beach goers. I mean, when in Rome, right? So after many weekends of beach-hopping, we polled the kids for the favorite beach. By this time we had visited about 6 beaches and not too surprising, Laguna Beach trumped the competition. Laguna is the most exotic of the beaches I have visited thus far, and it was easy to enjoy at Casa Laguna, where we stayed to attend the Gorjana store opening. It was a fun weekend getaway from the hustle of Los Angeles and the coffee on the veranda was a huge bonus. And the store had a photo-booth … you know, those contraptions where you put your kids in and you don’t see them for 10 hours straight? Yeah, so that was a bonus as well. After we peeled the kids away from the 52nd photo-booth picture, we hit the sack at the hotel so as to fit in a cold swim and some yummy breakfast the next morning before leaving. Thankfully, we got four sleepy heads on the long drive home and lots of memories. Can’t wait to go back!

4 Things to do in Laguna.

  1. Victoria Beach – Lots of rock but seal sighting is normal, great views and surf
  2. Casa Laguna pool – the pretty tile and lookout building was fun and romantic.
  3. Banzai Bowl – acai bowls are so refreshing after a morning at the beach or afternoon swim. And my kids love them!
  4. Zinc Cafe & Market – yummy almond milk lattes
