As a busy mom, I tend to keep things pretty simple because my life is anything but. Lots of “oops” happen when you are traveling with kids, and the way to prepare for that is to simplify. First off, in order of importance, pack blankies and snacks. Do not forget either or there will be general mayhem. For you, pack basics, NOT outfits. Of course, if you’re packing for a specific occasion that makes sense, but four days in Sedona mandates a swimsuit, tees, cut-offs, sneakers, and a great book. See? Simple.

As for my 6 travel essentials:

1 travel duffel / 2 bell sleeve blouse / 3 trench coat / 4 leather like leggings / 5 slinky heels / 6 chic sneakers / the rest are details: basics – soft tees, toiletries (deserves a whole post in itself) and snacks for kids (also deserves a separate post), and maps and travel guides.

 I can’t wait for our next adventure!

How to: Winter Layers in LA

It’s back to school this week, and although I’m feeling the pains of routine (i.e. getting the kids out the door by 8am), it’s good to be back. This winter, it’s all about upping your layering game. And apparently January in LA mandates all the layers as its been so chilly and wet. Here, I paired a bell sleeve sweater and studded military jacket with simple jeans and heels. I love that I could also pair this sweater with a black leather jacket for a black and gray look. Stylist tip: order one size up in sweaters or tees to get that cozy off-the-shoulder-look. And THANK YOU for entering the Jane Pope ring giveaway! 5 Coated Denim with Nordstrom

Partnering with Nordstrom is always a favorite job because their style and selection never disappoints, which makes my job that much easier. Today I’m going to go out on a limb and make a case for the lesser known cousin to traditional denim, the coated denim. With all the denim everywhere, it’s always good to mix it up. Here are my top 5 faves from Nordstrom.  The burgundy denim boasts a post-Christmas, binge-friendly lycra waistband, a flattering leg, and not to mention, an awesome price. As soon as these arrived in the mail, I tried them on, did my usual tight-jean dance and called these a winner. As for styling tips, I went with my usual size and paired it with an oversize distressed sweater and my husband’s scarf. The latter was meant to be a Christmas gift to him, but like I always tell the kids, “Sharing is Caring.” See also how I styled a scarf with Nordstrom HERE and shop my coated denim look below. batavia – U.S. Bank Tower, 633 west 5th St, downtown. If you’re visiting Sky Space, work downtown, or just need refreshment (and really good coffee) this is worth a stop.

dinosaur coffee – 4334 west sunset blvd. (silverlake) kid friendly, outdoor seating, great lighting, and a yummy americano. Bonus: the kids loved the muffins!

urth caffé If you’re a matcha lover, order their blended or iced matcha with boba. A couple sips, and you’re hooked.

intelligentsia 3922 west sunset blvd. (silverlake) I can’t leave this place without getting a “shoefie.” Granada tile makes the vibrant blue tile, and the latte is oh so good. Bring your laptop and stay for work. Love the indoor/outdoor vibes.

My New Years Resolution

If you wanna switch up your jean game, why not try flares? Prepare to get tons of compliments and bonus they go with the neutral basics you already have in your closet. Here I styled them with a silky tank, classic trench and black strap heel. I wore this to a recent day date and the layers were completely necessary as it was only  55 degrees and windy! Who knew corduroy was so warm? Nevertheless, loving that it’s warm, gives off a quintessential 70’s vibe and looks like we’ll be seeing more of it.

As for New Years resolutions, mine is to say ‘yes’ to what’s important, be ok with saying ‘no,’ and be fully present where I am. Whether I’m playing on the floor with my kids or creating content for a brand. Making EVERY moment count.

38 degree mornings in Los Angeles call for LAYERS. Someone stop me, I cannot get enough scarves and fuzzy sweaters. I love how a good OTK boot elevates this look from cozy to chic. For date night, I can easily swap out the blue jeans for a chic black leatherette pant and black sweater. Because nothing says date night like all black and the chicest of accessories.
