I’m often asked, how to style a plaid coat. Well, if you’re more like a black coat type of person, have no fear. A lot of basics and neutrals tone down the craziest of coats. First step is a suede skirt, neutral top (I like a touch of ruffle under $70!), and brown bootie. A combo I can wear to church, birthday parties and meetings. Really the simplest outfits make the biggest impact. Shop this look at Nordstrom, and as always my shop page. Happy Humpday!

Everyone has their own makeup routine, and I promise I’m not trying to mess with it. Scout’s honor. But I’m always picking up new tricks (impossible NOT to do in LA) and changing things up in the hopes of finding that Greater Beauty and thought I’d share some of them. I’m often changing up my routine as my skin changes with the seasons. I must admit, I’m no pro and am definitely still learning the best techniques from various brushes to the smoothest finish. But time, ya’ll. There is no time. So before school drop off I have roughly 5-11 minutes to get ready, so I don’t mess around. First step is concealer. I dot it around the middle of the forehead and under the eyes. I smooth it in with my blending  or foundation brush. Next, I pump one to two pumps of foundation onto my left hand, dab it with the foundation brush, and apply it in circles starting at the side jaw and working my way up. Side note, my skin is naturally oily and this foundation leaves no oily residue with its matte finish. Once the face is covered, I finish with finishing powder using the largest and softest brush. All day I get good coverage. Also, I use a make-up setting spray to hold my foundation in the hot SoCal conditions. A quick swipe of lip balm, a few strokes of mascara, and voila. The face is on. Anybody else have any no-fail secrets or techniques? Don’t hold out on us, people!

Who doesn’t love the fact that leggings and running shoes are hotter than hot right now? It’s now totally chic to arrive on Rodeo Drive in gym attire (minus the sweat), which makes sense when you see all the high-fashion workout wear that is everywhere. Even Beyonce has gotten on this train. Seriously people, this is fashion + comfort in its truest form. Here, I put my own spin on it with faux leather leggings, a cozy knit, and my custom Nike iD’s. Have you checked out their site? It’s the coolest thing to be able to custom design your own Nike’s. You can even write a message in the back. The colors, patterns, and message options are endless, so get to it! You’ll get them just in time to run off all that pie.

How to get started?

  1. Start with a Color, An icon , and Nike will provide the prompts
  2. They make it
  3. It arrives in 3-5 weeks, they’ll update you via email.
  4. Click HERE to start your new design

Tip: If original Christmas gifts for friends and loved ones isn’t your forte, get them a gift card to customize their own Nike’s. Brilliant right? Visit me on Pinterest to see my top faves.

Even though we moved to southern California, I refuse to give up all the knits and cardigans. Namely the oversize ultra-cozy layer known as the boyfriend cardigan. I prefer it in a marled oversize knit over just about anything. <Sigh,> I love Fall. Monday, I may throw it over a lacey cami, Wednesday over a striped tee, Friday, over a mock neck turtleneck. As much as the options are endless on top, they are also on bottom. For example, you can wear the cardi over jeans (I prefer skinny’s or THESE to balance the oversize cardigan), coated faux leather jeans, leggings, or sailor shorts. Despite Fall temps only lasting till 10am PST on a given day, I will relish every hour of it, with a cup of tea in hand.

Two styles that are always on-trend but will always remain classics are military blazers and stripes. I’m a huge fan of the military look and a HUGE fan of Topshop. It’s no lie as a majority of my grams have at least one Topshop piece. Have you noticed? I’ll tell you why: they are affordable, on-trend, and carry a vast variety of day-to-night looks. Let’s face it, gold buttons make my heart skip a beat. Whether you’re a fan of the military look or just need to update your stripes, you can’t go wrong with this classic look. If you’re headed to date night cocktails, ditch the jeans and pair the blazer with a dress. I also linked a couple Topshop picks at Nordstrom. What are some of your favorites?

I plan to wear this top with these jeans to hang out with my cousin and the fam this weekend. And layer it with a trench, because it’s officially layering season. Hallelujah! My favorite season even if it means more palm trees than falling leaves. Hello SoCal Fall. As a reminder, check out my shop page with pieces of what I’m wearing and styling. I update it daily. Nothing beats a refreshing run on the bridge at golden hour. Although, if I’m honest, I’ll admit I get tired and easily bored with daily workouts. So tunes, new gear (hello cute Nike tank!) and changing up my routine are essential. So many of you have asked for my diet and exercise routine. While I will not go into much detail, the five minute explanation is this. I usually run 3 times a week and strength training 1-2 times a week. If I’m fighting the usual 5 lbs, I drink green and dandelion tea, lots of H20, snack on protein snacks like almonds (not empty carbs like chips) and eat balanced meals like rice and chicken (or fish) with veggies. I go easy on the carbs but always make exceptions for the dark chocolate. Everything in moderation, as Granny used to say. It’s tough to say no to a run with THIS kind of view AND new workout gear from Nordstrom. Style note: I included the sizes I ordered. Keep in mind, you can order multiple sizes and easily return the ones that don’t work out. Nordstrom is known for its amazing customer service.

As we all know, velvet is as hot as Malibu in October. HOT. While we love it because it plays with the light, we wear it because it feels like the coziest throw pillow. No joke. No wonder we’re all going gaga for velvet. Well, I am no exception. Here, I styled it with leather coated jeans, and midi brown boots. At a cool $148, its a great buy. I’ve already worn it three times in two days. How’s that for cost per wear?
